Quote1 In my experience, Henry, there are times that call us to be bigger than ourselves. For the greater good. The world needs giants right now, son. Quote2
Captain America[src]

History

Steven Rogers, better known as Captain America, was a super-soldier who originated during World War II. He participated in the global armed conflict alongside the android Human Torch, who served as his ally and comrade-in-arms, prior to being frozen in the Arctic Circle.[1] When the extra-dimensional villain the Maker sought to alter the world and reshape it, he employed his foreknowledge of history's predetermined path to forestall the emergence of superheroes. This was done in order to preemptively neutralize any potential threats to his designs. However, he was unable to identify the location of Captain America's frozen remains and thus concluded that he had never existed within this particular universe.[2]

In reality, the preserved body of Rogers had been retrieved by Anthony Stark, in his armored guise of Iron Lad, and Doom, before the Maker could eliminate him. This pair had traveled from the present era through the Immortus Engine time machine and sought out Captain America upon identifying a gap in stolen files belonging to the Maker. They understood that they were to be the preordained ones to locate him and enlist him in their mission to rectify the world.[3] Nevertheless, recognizing the absence of a viable method to thaw him out of the ice without adverse consequences to his well-being, Iron Lad elected to keep him at Stark Tower until a solution could be devised.[4]

Personality

Untouched by the greater machinations of the Maker, Steve Rogers has been able to retain his most admirable qualities as a symbol of hope, wisdom, and inspiration.[4] His speech to a frightened and indecisive Hank Pym, convincing him to become Giant-Man, exemplifies these qualities.[5]

However, waking up from one war against facism only to be thawed into another has had its effect on Rogers' mentality, making him willing to murder his enemies like the rest of his fellow freedom fighters in their global revolution against the Maker's Council.[6]
