X-Men #8
Cyclops watches over the X-Men's latest training session. He helps Iceman develop his powers, including making his body colder, which in turn makes him appear icier and more transparent, rather than a snowman. Following the tough workouts, Cyclops gives the group the rest of the day off. Jean tries to convince Cyclops to spend the rest of the afternoon with them, but he refuses, saying that he has too much work to do. From her thoughts, it becomes obvious that Jean has fallen in love with Scott.

Heading for the coffee shop where they met Zelda, Hank and Bobby come across a child in danger of falling off a roof. Without any time to change into costume, Hank climbs up the side of the building and rescues the child. When he reaches the ground again, he and Bobby are attacked by the onlooking mob, which is angered that there was a mutant hiding among them. Hank and Bobby escape and head back to the mansion.

Infuriated, Hank tells Scott that he is quitting the X-Men. Scott does not know what to do, so he contacts Professor Xavier. Professor Xavier tells him that he cannot do anything about it, and continues on his quest to find Lucifer.

A week later, Hank has established himself as a pro wrestler named The Beast. His latest opponent is Unus, the Untouchable. Hank tries to attack Unus, but every time he attempts to strike the man, he is stopped by an invisible forcefield. Hank suddenly recognizes Mastermind in the audience, then realizes that the two men somehow know each other.

After the fight, Mastermind heads into Unus' locker room. Unus inquires whether he can join the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants yet. Mastermind informs him that due to the failures of Namor and the Blob recently, Unus must prove his loyalty before receiving membership. He informs Unus that he must find or even defeat one of the X-Men.

Unus has no idea how to find the X-Men, so he goes for a walk. He sees a bank robbery and thinks that he could put the money to better use, and robs the bank robbers. The X-Men are nearby and assume Unus is the bank robber and confront him. The four X-Men are unable to figure out how to fight a man who can't be touched. Unus grabs Angel, who tries to fly off. Unus holds onto him, knowing that the X-Men are not killers. Angel eventually sets Unus down on a nearby rooftop.

The X-Men return to the mansion to plot a strategy and find Beast in the lab, working on a strange device. Beast informs them that the device is designed to increase Unus' powers. The X-Men think Beast has joined with Magneto and attack him. Beast tries to explain his plan, but the others won't listen, so he grabs his device and jumps out the window. At the gym, Beast uses the device on Unus, increasing his powers. The X-Men arrive too late.

At first, Unus is very pleased with his powers, but quickly realizes he can no longer control them. He learns that he can't touch anything, not even his cigarettes and food. The X-Men find him in a restaurant trying to grab food because he is starving, but his power thwarts him. Beast makes a deal with Unus to reverse the device's effects, as long as he does not join the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Unus agrees and returns to his wrestling career after being treated, and Beast returns to the X-Men.

Daredevil #9
After busting up some crooks that are trying to make an escape through New York harbor, Daredevil gets shot in the arm for all his trouble. Patching up his wound and resuming his civilian guise, Matt Murdock reports for work at his office where Karen informs him that Dr. Van Eych, the doctor who could possibly restore Matt's sight has recently moved to the country of Lichtenbad. They meet with Foggy who is "preparing" for the arrival of a former exchange student/classmate from their post-secondary days named Klaus Kruger who is the Duke of Lichtenbad who is coming to visit. When Klaus arrives, Matt asks him about Van Eych's treatment for the blind, Klaus verifies the claims, and Matt asks to go along because he senses that Klaus is lying about something.

Helping the resistance movement in his Daredevil guise, DD gets into a direct conflict with the Duke and his knights. After freeing the prisoners in the Duke's castle, DD resumes his civilian guise and sees the doctor about his treatment.

While back in the States, Karen's obvious affection for Matt visibly angers Foggy who reacts jealously. Back in Lichtenbad, Matt's treatments are interrupted when Von Eych's treasonous remarks are heard and the knights take him away. Changing back to Daredevil, Matt helps the people of Litchenbad fight off the Duke's men and in a battle with the Duke. The Duke informs him that he will release a Cobalt Cloud to kill everyone, this is overheard by Van Eycht who sacrifices his life to stop this from happening. During the fight with Daredevil, the ends up falling to his death. Daredevil soon realizes that the Dr. sacrificed himself to save everyone.

Silver Surfer Vol 1 13 001

Detailed Summary:
The Silver Surfer reads in the newspapers that the United Nation is calling a special session to discuss the threat of the Doomsday Man. He is not sure exactly what this Doomsday Man is, but it reminds him of a recent incident. The Surfer came across a remote island in the Pacific that was heavily guarded by battleships and infantry. On the island they were building a heavily fortified structure. While mysterious, it didn't concern him so he went on his way. Now he's determined to go to the United Nations and find out if what he saw and the Doomsday Man are connected.

At the United Nations, the ambassadors meet to hear Dr. Kronton explain the history of the Doomsday Man. It's a powerful robot built to be the USA's ultimate defensive robot in space. It can survive on any world and under any conditions. However, after the robot was competed, they realized that they made the indestructible robot too powerful. Unable to destroy it, they instead sealed the robot into a large concrete prison on an uninhabited island. They thought they had solved the problem, but recently movement has been reported inside the bunker and there is concern that the robot is moving and trying to get out.

Meanwhile, the Surfer arrives at the United Nations, but is stopped from entering by a guard. He decides to bypass security by flying directly to floor that the meeting is being held. Dr. Kronton welcomes the appearance of the Silver Surfer and sees his power as being crucial to stopping the Doomsday Man. The ambassadors are skeptical of all of it and the meeting breaks down into arguing.

Tired of all the talk, the Surfer departs with Dr. Kronton and they head to the bunker to investigate. They break into the fortified structure from below and are quickly attacked by the robot. While the Surfer recovers from its laser attack, the robot grabs a large cobalt bomb and breaks out of his prison.

They follow the robot and it is revealed that Dr. Kronton is controlling the robot. He plans to threaten the world with the deadly bomb that it is carrying and force every nation to pay him a ransom in order to stop the robot.

The Surfer distracts the robot enough that it puts down the bomb and attacks him instead. He dodges the robot's assault and has it fall into a bottomless pit created his cosmic blast. Dr. Kronton tries to help the robot out of the pit, but is killed by his creation instead. The robot falls to the core of the Earth and the Surfer hurtles the bomb into space. The crowd that had gathered blame him for the doctor's death and accuse him of unleashing the robot, but instead of defending himself the Silver Surfer just silently walks away.
