History

S.H.I.E.L.D. was an international peacekeeping, law enforcement, and counter-terrorism agency, headed by Nick Fury. After Nick Fury's unsanctioned Secret War in Latveria had devastating consequences, Fury went underground and was replaced by Maria Hill. Under her guidance, S.H.I.E.L.D. captured many unregistered superheroes and used supervillains as their tools. However, in the end it turned up to be a disaster and the nanites almost conquered the world. After the nanite threat was eliminated, Tony Stark was appointed the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
