After Deathlok and Silver Sable's Wild Pack put the scientists on the run with their stock, Fury's team entered the Cyberwarrior subterranean base in Paris to confiscate it. Deathlok was there with Siege, a Cyberwarrior who was controlled by an artificial intelligence evolved from the brain patterns of John Kelly. Deathlok believed that Siege was unstable and wanted it to surrender the cyborg body, threatening it; Fury interrupted their encounter to reclaim both the base and Siege for analysis; but Siege refused to be disassembled. Fury ordered Sloat and another of his agents, Pierce, to stop Siege, which they did with the Sonic Neural Disruptor. Siege was immobilized by the discharge but, while Fury dealt with Deathlok, Siege recovered unexpectedly soon and attacked S.H.I.E.L.D. with non-lethal force, just enough so that they couldn't stop him from escaping. In the struggle, the ceiling was knocked down on top of Siege, and he was considered lost. S.H.I.E.L.D. then left the base, as the rest of it would crumble soon afterward.[94] |
