History
Early Life[]
The past history of Susan Storm largely mirrors that of her Earth-616 counterpart.
As a young woman, Susan Storm, her brother Johnny Storm, boyfriend Reed Richards and his pilot friend Ben Grimm performed an unauthorized launch of a space-shuttle in a bid to win the space race. Ben Grimm had warned them of the dangers of cosmic radiation and the ship's untested shielding, but his warnings were unheeded. The shuttle crashed after the group were exposed to a sizeable dose of radiation, causing all of them to mutate. Susan gained the ability to create forcefields and turn invisible.[1]
The four of them formed a superhero group known as the Fantastic Four, using their newfound powers and scientific acumen to explore the universe. During their adventures, they encountered Namor the Submariner, the half-human prince of Atlantis. Namor was quickly smitten with Susan, and despite her intense attraction to him, she ultimately chose Reed over Namor. Susan and Reed were married, and would go on to have a son by the name of Franklin Richards.[1]
Mutation of Humanity[]
Many years after the birth of her son, the entire population of Earth began to mutate due to the secret release of the Terrigen Mist into Earth's atmosphere. This caused widespread chaos and anarchy, with increasing numbers of people finding themselves deformed and superpowered over night. The Fantastic Four barricaded themselves in the Baxter Building, where Reed and his scientist colleagues attempted in vain to reverse the mutations. These attempts failed after the Baxter Building was stormed by a superhuman mob. [2]
In addition, the mutation of humanity coincided with a massive meat shortage, which in turn caused widespread famine. When the nations of humanity turned towards the oceans to satisfy their need for food, Prince Namor was enraged. When the United Nations refused to allow Atlantis to participate in an emergency session on the food shortage, he made common cause with Dr. Doom and attacked the meeting, slaughtering the delegates.[1]
The Fantastic Four, now joined by the teenaged Franklin, and Captain America attempted to stop the attack. In the course of battle, Susan's brother Johnny was brutally killed by Namor. Enraged at his uncle's death, Franklin cursed him, causing half of his body to erupt into fire whenever he left the sea. A shocked Namor fled, leaving the Fantastic Four to confront Doom. Enraged by her brother's death and blaming it all on Doom's schemes and manipulation of Namor, she chased after him. Doom had planned to fake his own death in an explosion he hoped would kill Reed, and activated it when pursued by Susan. The plan failed, and both Susan and Doom were killed.[1]
Realm of the Dead[]
Upon her death, Susan found herself in the Realm of the Dead. Here, deceased heroes and villains fought never-ending battles, believing that they were still alive and that all those they had left behind were the ones who were dead. When the Kree hero Mar-Vell began plotting to kill Death itself, he began recruiting the dead to his cause, convincing them of the truth of their existence. [3]
However, Mar-Vell decided that Susan's place was with her husband. Having convinced Johnny of the truth, Johnny tried to reason with his sister, who declared that she would only believe him if he could get Dr. Doom to apologize to her. Johnny convinced Doom of the truth. Humbled by this realization, Doom did indeed confess his sins and ask Susan for forgiveness.[3]
Using Reed's own arm and the Soul Stone, Mar-Vell and Alicia Masters were able to restore Susan to life, reuniting her at last with her husband.[3]
Universe X[]
Susan awoke in a world without much time, as the death of the Celestial embryo gestating in the Earth's core had caused massive environmental disasters, which threatened to destroy the planet.[4]
Sue remained by Reed's side at all times, and soon realized that she also had stretching powers as he did. When the followers of the Church of Immortus attacked Castle Doom to douse the Human Torch, Reed and Sue were protected by Buzz and Chuck Grimm, and later rescued by Ransak the Reject and the Monster Generation whom Reed and Sue invited into their home.[5]
Having given up hope of saving the world, Reed prepared to leave the Earth with his family, not wanting to lose Sue again. However, the world's heroes managed to avoid the disaster, allowing them to remain on Earth. Shortly after Mar-Vell succeeded in killing Death, a new problem occurred: nobody on Earth could die. And so hospitals all over Earth were becoming filled with the mortally wounded. Reed and Sue would head the effort in Latveria.[6] [7]
Paradise X[]
In order to solve the issue of no one being able to die, Reed and a collection of the world's smartest minds decided to look for a replacement for Death, finding Jude the Entropic Man.[8] Reed contained Jude in Castle Doom, hoping to synthesize Jude's entropic abilities into a serum which could grant Death to those who desired it.[9]
However, Jude was freed by Mephisto who intended to unleash him upon the world, and suggested that he first go after Susan Richards, who Mephisto informed him had cheated the "gift" of Death. Sue and Reed narrowly escaped Jude's judgement.[10]
Sue followed Reed into the Negative Zone when he and a number of other heroes traveled there to try and stop the expansion of Paradise, the new afterlife created by Mar-Vell. However, Reed and the others would learn that they had been mistaken to doubt Mar-Vell. Rather than consuming the Negative Zone, as they had believed, it was in fact enveloping it and the entire universe in a protective shield to safeguard it from the influence of the Elders of the Universe and the Celestials. Mar-Vell passed his omniscience to Reed, who asked Kyle Richmond to alert Sue that he would use this new found ability to find their son.[11]Attributes
Powers
Originally Sue had the same invisibility powers as her Earth-616 counterpart up until her death, and while she resided in the Realm of the Dead. When she was resurrected by Mar-Vel, Alicia Masters-Grimm, and Adam Warlock, she had the same stretching ability as Reed Richards, due to the fact that her body was made out of Reed's own arm.
It is an ability which she has yet to master, however Reed has shown the ability to attach himself to her by the stump where his arm used to be and control her stretching ability himself. Which suggests that the two had some degree of symbiosis.Weaknesses
