This Space Phantom who impersonated the Cotati Swordsman was employed by Immortus in a complex plan to keep the Avengers occupied before the coming of Onslaught.[1]

Brainwashed by Immortus into believing he was the real deal,[1] the Swordsman believed to be Mantis' ex-husband, who had left her for unknown reasons some time before. He was captured by Mantis' sons Malachi and Tobias,[2] sent by a vengeful Mantis, actually another Space Phantom;[1] he was then bringed to Kang's citadel Chronopolis,[3] actually Immortus' Limbo.[1]

He was freed by a redeemed Iron Man, who had been controlled by Immortus since the so-called Operation Galactic Storm,[1] sacrificing himself to stop Mantis.[4]

  • When The Crossing was first published, all the characters who appeared were intended to be who they actually were. Since the whole storyline started to make almost no sense after some author changes and continuity errors between the various series, Kurt Busiek retconned the entire event in Avengers: Forever #8 into being a plan devised by Immortus in order to have the Avengers occupied before the uponcoming threat of Onslaught. Nearly all the antagonists, except for Kang who was retconned into being Immortus, were then retconned into being Space Phantoms.
