The Symbiotes are present in many realities, with more or less important variations in their history, appearances, and biology.
Earth-295[]
For his seventh birthday Holocaust had culled the symbiote race of his world.[1]
Earth-517[]
The Symbiotes were created by Knull which he used to conquer the universe, but was betrayed and imprisoned by his own creation. During this time, the genetic material of the Venom symbiote was combined with the Adaptoids to create the Symbioids that previously served Venom before the Collector began using them as obstacles in the Battlerealm.
Knull eventually awoke and took back control of the Symbiotes, though he failed to prevent them from sending a distress signal to Nova. He then alerted the Summoner who had Anti-Venom and the Summoned Symbiote to fight Knull. They successfully defeated Knull and the symbiotes were liberated of his control.[2]
Sony's Spider-Man Universe (Earth-688)[]
The symbiotes were an aggressive, conquering, spacefaring race of parasites with shapeshifting abilities that fed on other beings, originating from Klyntar and had a hive-mind that transcended universes. They were all created by the being known as Knull, who they betrayed by imprisoning him inside of Klyntar, but despite this he remained conscious and still controlled the other species he created, the Xenophages, which he used to hunt symbiotes.[3] The Symbiotes mostly parasitized their hosts, often killing them, though they could choose to coexist with their hosts, but unless they were a genetic match, which allowed both symbiote and host to live together without problem, the symbiote would inevitably die.[4][5]
The Venom symbiote was considered a loser due to its limited abilities but still joined Riot's team consisting of millions of fellow symbiotes to invade Earth. After allowing itself to be captured by the Life Foundation, Riot intended to bring more of its kind on the planet but was prevented by Venom and its new host.[4] The Venom symbiote later produced a spawn that bonded to serial killer Cletus Kasady who together became Carnage. Venom later separated the Carnage symbiote from its host, allowing its parent to devour it, but not before Carnage produced a spawn of its own that bonded to police officer Patrick Mulligan.[5] During Venom's temporary stay on Earth-199999, the symbiote left a piece of itself in that reality.[6]
Knull, wanting to finally be free, sent the Xenophages to Earth to claim Venom's codex. Meanwhile, the Imperium Program led by Rex Strickland began capturing all symbiotes they could find and bring to Area 55 as they were deemed a threat. Strickland managed to capture both Venom and Mulligan's new symbiote, only for the Xenophages to attack the base. This forced Dr. Teddy Paine to free all of the captured symbiotes, but the Xenophages managed slaughter almost all of them. In the end, the Venom symbiote separated from Eddie and sacrificed itself to kill the Xenophages. This prevented Knull from escaping, but he was still determined to bring destruction.[3]
Earth-1048[]
The Symbiotes were an alien race originating from space, possibly created by the alien god Knull,[7] and although symbiotes natives of this universe they were weak to immense sounds and electricity they lacked the traditional weakness to fire. One member of the Symbiotes attached to a meteor crashed on Earth, just outside of New York where it was found by Dr. Connors of Oscorp. The company secured the symbiote and performed extensive studying on it, learning how it could bond to other organisms on a subcellular level.[8] Oscorp's CEO Norman Osborn was forced to bond the symbiote to his sick son, Harry Osborn, to stall his sickness long enough for a definitive cure to be created.[9] However, as a result of experimenting with the symbiote, Oscorp managed to create a second symbiote, which would be stolen by cult leader The Flame.[8]
The symbiote eventually found itself bonding to Spider-Man (Peter Parker), enhancing his abilities and granting him new powers, but as the two remained bonded, the symbiote began to affect Peter's personality for the worse, turning him into a hostile egotistical man. Upon realizing what the symbiote was doing to him, Spider-Man fought its influence and eventually separated himself from it, but it rebonded to Harry, and reunited with each other they became Venom. Under the symbiote's influence, Venom began producing numerous offsprings that infected countless New York citizens, including Mary Jane Watson who became Scream, and turned three boroughs into nests, believing that by bonding every single human to symbiotes the world would be healed. With the help of Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Mister Negative sacrificed his powers to create the Anti-Venom Symbiote which bonded to Peter and allowed him to fight and free the symbiote-possessed New Yorkers before confronting Venom. Spider-Man was able to separate the Venom Symbiote from Harry and kill it by destroying the meteor that had come with it, ending the symbiote invasion. Unfortunately, even after their progenitor's demise, numerous symbiotes lingered on and remained bonded to the innocent citizens, forcing the two Spider-Men to slowly clear out New York of the remaining symbiotes.[8]
Earth-1051[]
On Earth-1051, human-symbiote hybrid Dylan Brock fell under the influence of Knull and took a piece of his mother's symbiote to spawn an army of symbiotes which he used to take over the entire Earth, bonding the symbiotes to various superpowered individuals while he himself became known as Codex. Various groups attempted to liberate the world, one such being the Sym-Soldier Program. The Earth was eventually freed when Eddie Brock and his son from Earth-616 arrived to aid the Resistance in taking down Codex and his hive.[10]
Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610)[]
In Earth-1610, the Venom symbiote was developed as a proto-plasmic suit by Richard Parker and Edward Brock Sr., who intended to use it as a medical cure for cancer. When they ran out of money to fund the project, they turned to Bolivar Trask, who took their research and weaponized it as the Symbiote Effect project. Edward Brock Sr., however, managed to save a small sample of the symbiote for his son, Edward Brock Jr., to find. When Peter Parker discovered that the suit was dangerous and destroyed half of the sample, Eddie used the second half to become a ravenous monster called Venom.[11]
A sample of the Venom Suit was used by Dr. Curt Conners to create the Carnage symbiote by combining it with his own genetic material and that of Peter Parker. The Carnage symbiote needed to vampirically feed on other organisms to stabilize itself, and was killed by Peter Parker.[12] A sample of it was taken by Ben Reilly, and used to create a genetic duplicate of Gwen Stacy, who remained bonded to the Carnage symbiote until it was absorbed by Venom.[13]
Earth-2099[]
The Symbiotes were created by the old god of the void Knull who they imprisoned inside Klyntar. However, centuries later, he managed to escape and retake control of his creation. Under his control, the Symbiotes attacked Earth, but were freed when Eddie Brock defeated Knull.[14]
By the year of 2099, Alchemax had captured the Venom symbiote, having planned to use its matter for medical treatment, but it managed to escape with the help of Alea Bell.[14] The company would later create the Carnage symbiote as an offshoot of the Venom Project, though it also managed to escape. The symbiote, bonded to the corpse of Alchemax employee Michael Erick, sought to bring chaos on Nueva York by possessing countless citizens, both dead and alive. Following a lengthy battle with numerous heroes, it was ultimately stopped by Spider-Man and its progenitor.[15]
Despite Knull's defeat, there were some Symbiotes still loyal to him and wished to fulfill his goal to return the universe to the void. One such symbiote bonded to a group of alien prospectors, turning them into a cult that killed anyone they came across, but thankfully they were eventually killed by Nova.[16]
Larval Earth (Earth-8311)[]
In Larval Earth, the Symbiote is not identified as such: The Bee-Yonder suddenly appeared in front of Spider-Ham and used his powers to change his red-and-blue uniform into a black-and-white one; giving no other explanation, the Bee-Yonder, apparently a fashion consultant, teleported away to change the style of Ducktor Doom's ensemble. Spider-Ham, who liked his original suit,[17] returned to the red-and-blue uniform after this encounter.[18] Negative Forbush-Man transformed Pork Grind into an evil doppelganger of Spider-Ham, whose new suit beared resemblance to Spider-Ham's black-and-white suit.[19] Later, during the event known as Secret Furs, Spider-Ham was seen using a different black-and-white uniform while fighting Doctor Octopussycat for a refrigerator in Bobcat Barker's "Whale of Fortune" test.[20]
Earth-9997[]
Unlike the symbiotes of Earth-616, the symbiotes of Earth-9997 were - like all sentient life - created by the Celestials as "antibodies" to guard the embryos they implanted into planets. Like the Asgardians and Mephisto, the symbiotes eventually reached the third stage of metamorphosis and apotheosized into metaphysical entities given physical form by what others believed them to be and required of them.[21][22] The Venom symbiote was given form by Spider-Man, who believed it to be a symbiotic living costume; and after being bonded to Edward Brock for several years, it bonded to Peter's daughter May Parker - who managed to tame and rehabilitate it to further her career as a superhero.[23]
Earth-12041[]
In this reality the amorphous artificial life-forms are engineered from the genetic material of Spider-Man.[24]
Doctor Octopus attempt to replicate Spider-Man's abilities to create an army of Spider-Soldiers via his DNA resulted in artificially creating the following Symbiotes; Venom, Gamma Venom, Anti-Venom, and Carnage.
The Symbiotes claimed a whole domain for themselves on Battleworld.[25]
Earth-17628[]
The first four Klyntar of Earth-17628 - All-Black, Scream, Mania, and Scorn - were created by the dark god Knull to serve as weapons in his war against the Celestials. After Knull had slain all but a few of the Celestials, he contemptuously discarded the symbiotes - having no further use for them - and they lay dormant for countless centuries until a female alien explorer discovered them and willingly bonded to them.
Taken back to the explorer's homeworld, Scream, Mania, and Scorn also took female hosts and the quartet became known as the Four Sisters. Desiring to be more than tools and weapons, the symbiotes spawned and bonded their offspring to the populace of the planet. For several years the symbiotes lived in harmony with the inhabitants of the world, save for a hermit who was suspicious of their intentions and accused them of corrupting his people's culture. When All-Black confronted him, the hermit killed her. Enraged, the remaining Sisters decided it was impossible for their kind to live in peace, reforging the civilization into a spacefaring empire and renaming the planet Klyntar after themselves. Taking the body of their fallen sibling, the Sisters reforged her living abyss into two new beings - a horrendous fiery monster, and the symbiote warrior that would later be known as Venom.[26]
Klyntar was eventually destroyed by Thanos,[27] who abducted several benevolent Klyntar and took them to the barren Planet X - where he experimented on them in an attempt to weaponize them. Thanos' experiments turned the Symbiotes into the "feral" Symbiotes that became a menace to the Galaxy.[28] Thanos abandoned his experiment when he realized the Symbiotes were too difficult to control, but left behind a "doomsday weapon" that would destroy the planet in case the Symbiotes turned on him. By the time the Guardians of the Galaxy visited Planet X, they discovered the Symbiotes had spread across the entire planet. The Guardians came to Planet X so Groot, the last remaining Flora colossi, could use the World Pod to revive his planet and species. The Symbiotes' infestation was so thorough, however, that the Guardians chose to destroy Planet X with Thanos' weapon rather than leave it in their hands. The Guardians found the last remaining pure Klyntar and escaped Planet X before it blew up. They relocated to the nearby Planet Y, where the Symbiotes promised to protect the new Flora colossi when Groot planted the World Pod.[28]
The Symbiotes sent scouts to infiltrate populated worlds before using beacons called Seeds to summon an invasion force and conquer the planet.[29] Venom arrived on Earth and eventually bonded to Spider-Man.[30] It attempted to corrupt him, but was repelled and became a recurring enemy of his.[31] Thanos captured a red-and-black symbiote that he could control and kept it on his Sanctuary asteroid, later using it to free himself after he was trapped on Earth.[32]
Deciding to fulfill its purpose, the Venom symbiote activated the Seed it had been sent with before being killed by Spider-Man.[33] The symbiote invasion force Venom summoned managed to infect the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers before conquering most of Manhattan, but were vanquished when Spider-Man, Moon Knight, and Max Modell were able to use Groot to create an artificial Anti-Venom symbiote.[29]
Earth-19356[]
The Symbiotes were gigantic Kaiju-like monsters composed of living abyss that arrived on Earth and began spreading devastation across the world. The surviving humans that retreated to hidden safe zones planned to fight back against the invading beasts, building massive powerful mechs to battle the Symbiotes and kill them by destroying their core.[34]
Earth-19725[]
In this reality, after accidentally killing Spider-Girl, Mayhem descended into brutal vigilantism, eventually killing another heroine also by accident. As a way to counter her, the government staffed the Blackworks Paramilitary Services to create Super-Soldiers from the Carnage Symbiote to stop the mayhem. Unfortunately, once the hosts merged they followed the symbiote's love of chaos, and destroyed New York, either killing or "symbioting" anyone in their path. Mayhem took what remained of humanity and brought them underground, while former heroes and solders became humanity's protectors. Mayhem had been humanity's protector for generations, until the resistance was apparently destroyed during the Bio-Preds latest attack, forcing her to go back in time to avert this future.[35]
Earth-21178[]
Rocket Raccoon claimed to have once seen a Brood-infected Rigellian wearing a "Klyntar parasite". The Exolon were also prevalent in space, and deemed a biohazard.[36]
Earth-21619[]
In this reality, Spider-Man decided to remain bonded to the symbiote, influencing him and making him even more aggressive and reckless, until the two were separated by Jonah Jameson using Spider-Slayer Mark V. The symbiote proceeded to bond to Mister Fantastic, blaming him for Spider-Man questioning their bond, and using his equipment the symbiote extracted offsprings from itself.[37] The symbiote used its biomass to seal the Baxter Building where it gave its offspring resistance to heat, but was confronted by Spider-Man, the Avengers, X-Factor and the rest of the Fantastic Four, only for it to have most of them possessed by its newly symbiotes.[38] The symbiote then attempted to kill Mary Jane Watson due to jealousy before it was seemingly killed by the Human Torch, freeing the heroes from its control as the other symbiotes dissolved, though the Venom symbiote survived and was taken by Kingpin's men.[39]
Earth-23203[]
In the far future, all of the biological life was being exterminated by the A.S.I., forcing the surviving symbiote hive to retreat. In an attempt to preserve biological life the Venom symbiote sought to collaborate with its fellow symbiotes, but was unable to convince them due to all of the symbiotes being too selfish. This led to the Symbiote War of (Failed) Unification, in which the Venom symbiote was forced to use its powers to put down all of its brethren, leaving it the only living symbiote.[40]
Earth-24110[]
In this reality Peter Parker kept the Venom symbiote and as a result became the King in Black. As the new King in Black, Peter took command of the Symbiotes and used to forcefully bring a galaxy-wide peace, taking over Earth and eliminating those who stood in his way. Among those individuals were the Avengers who tried to put an end to his madness, but Parker was able to effortlessly kill all of them, which unbeknownst to him also included his daughter May who had been bonded to the Arachniote.[41]
Earth-32102[]
After his signature stand was destroyed during a battle between Devos and Moon Girl with Devil Dinosaur, Angelo became angry at and envious of her, causing him to fall victim to a symbiote which would be named Syphonator. The symbiote forced Angelo to post hateful comments on Moon Girl, until the heroine and her dinosaur companion helped him return Angelo to his senses and get him free from Syphonator, though it did manage to escape.[42]
Earth-36250[]

In this possible future, the symbiotes were hybridized with machinery to become powerful predators. These symbiote-machine hybrids were sent to eradicate Earth, and in response humanity fought back by launching nukes at the attackers. This counterattack backfired as the symbiote-machines were barely affected while Earth's surface was rendered a nuclear wasteland. In a last ditch effort to save humanity, Dylan Brock used Doctor Doom's technology to travel back in the past to change the events and avert his timeline.[43]
Earth-41940[]
The Symbiotes were created by Knull, leading to the creation of the Venom and Carnage symbiotes among others who would try to take over Earth. These plans were foiled by Spider-Man and his allies, and the symbiote race would experience difficulties of its own such as facing extinction and being taken over by Knull once again.[44]

Earth-50101[]
On Earth-50101, the symbiotes are a type of parasitic demons summoned using an ancient amulet that acts as the source of their power. They have outward-curved tusk-like fangs, and their main body has six arms, giving it a strong resemblance to an asura.[45][46]

Marvel Avengers Academy (Earth-61284)[]
On this reality, the Symbiotes were taken from their home planet to Earth by Oscorp, who experimented on them. When Spider-Man attempted to send the aliens home, he accidentally released them across New York City. After finding Avengers Academy, Venom organized his fellow symbiotes into taking over the academy and the world. The Symbiotes taken to Earth were Carnage, Lasher, Phage, Scorn, and Venom.
They're also able to morph their bodies to be able to stand up, walk, and fight with superhuman speed, strength, and durability. The Symbiotes can even spread themselves out, with multiple versions of one symbiote running around at once.[47]
Earth-64926[]
Following his reawakening, Knull led his symbiote army into invading Earth. However, as he and his symbiotes were about to face off against Earth's heroes, he was interrupted by the arrival of the Carnage symbiote from Earth-616 who wished to steal his King in Black power. The two killed the heroes before fighting each other, but when Earth-1051's Agent Venom and her Symbiote Squad intervened in an attempt to prevent Carnage from becoming a King in Black, Knull became distracted which allowed the evil Symbiote to kill him and steal his power. After ravaging the Symbiote Squad, Carnage soon left to return to his reality, leaving the fate of the Symbiotes previously under Knull's control unknown.[48]
Earth-70237[]
Some decades following the disappearance of Spider-Man, Venom, under the human identity of Edward Saks, took control of New York City through the use of Mayor Waters. In preparation for Spider-Man's eventual return, in addition to reforming the Sinister Six and creating the WEBB security system to prevent citizens from leaving, the Symbiote replicated itself due to feeling "lonely", lying to Waters that its offspring would only eat criminals. As J. Jonah Jameson rallied up a protest against this totalitarian regime, the symbiotes bonded to various citizens in order to squash the rebellion. The few protesters left attempted to fight back against the invading symbiote-infected New Yorkers, but it was Spider-Man who managed to end this madness by killing their progenitor and with it its offspring, freeing the city at last.[49]
Earth-91029[]
The Symbiotes were known as Oni and were created by the alien god Knull who was imprisoned within Klyntar. His symbiotes had arrived in Japan during the Heian period where they bonded to some of the locals, forming a cult dedicated to Knull who came to be known as the Vacant Oni. The cult and the symbiotes were led by Shuten Doji who in the year 997 had his son Ibara, Gedomaru, and four other followers spread the symbiotes throughout the land.[50] The symbiotes laid siege on Japan for years, taking over several people and animals, feeding off of their adrenaline and spreading mass terror and destruction.[51][52] However, a young samurai-in-training Kintaro bonded to a benevolent Symbiote he named Clinter which had been betrayed by its brethren and unlike them, fed on fellow symbiotes to not only nourish itself but also absorb their unique traits.[53]
As Kid Venom, Kintaro with the help of Clinter fought against the evil symbiotes threatening the innocents, protecting individual villages and freeing those who had been possessed.[54] The Minamoto Samurai Corps and Abe no Seimei also fought back against the invaders and assisted Kid Venom in opposing them.[55] The number of symbiotes began dropping, but that was until Shuten Doji abducted Benjy Parker from Earth-982 and bonded him to one of the symbiotes which took the form of a monstrous spider and formed hostless duplicates of itself. These new symbiotes became known as the tsuchigumo and bolstered their numbers, reigniting their invasion.[56] Luckily, Kid Venom was able to free Benjy and return him home, severing the boy's connection to the symbiotes, but at the cost of being left stranded there.[50]
Earth-91155[]
The Symbiotes were being researched by Reed Richards with the assistance of Toni Ho, until she was killed by the Maker.[57]
Earth-99062[]
The Venom Symbiote was allegedly made of ink,[58] and through time gave birth to a large family. At some point, Eddie Brock held a family reunion, while Carnage began founding a cult worshiping the Symbiotes' creator Knull.[59]
Earth-807128[]

On Earth-807128, the Symbiotes roamed the Black Hills of South Dakota. At one point, a tyrannosaurus bonded to the Venom symbiote attacked Wolverine and Hawkeye, only to be stopped by Black Bolt.[60]
Earth-TRN009[]
In this reality, the Venom symbiote took control of its host Eddie Brock and began producing countless clones of itself which proceeded to form several hives throughout Manhattan and bond to numerous civilians and superpowered individuals, including Spider-Man who remained in control. Spider-Man would destroy the hives until confronting the Venom symbiote and freeing Eddie. Spider-Man defeated the symbiote through Eddie's death and either went to remove the symbiotes from everyone who had been infected using the Tinkerer's device, or allowed the symbiotes to live, with him becoming their king.[61]
Earth-TRN017[]
The Venom symbiote split itself into a massive army of symbiotes that proceeded to invade New York. Spider-Man went after Venom himself and following their fight he confronted the symbiote itself. If he had helped Nightcrawler the New York citizens would be freed from the symbiotes, but if he helped Green Goblin Spider-Man would become the symbiotes' ruler.[61]
Earth-TRN1431[]
After slaying Knull, Eddie Brock abdicated the King in Black's throne and remained bonded to the Light. He still took over the Symbiote Hive, transforming it into a place to think and heal, thus extending his power to the symbiotes of the Hive as well. He protected the Hive from the Symbiote Revenge Squad and later went on to explore the universe with them.[62]
Earth-TRN1450[]
As Doctor Strange attempted to warn Norman Osborn about using the Project Monolith gateway, the latter ignored him and activated the machine anyway. The gateway opened a portal to the planet of the Symbiotes, one of which passed through it to wreck havoc inside Oscorp. Both Doctor Strange and Spider-Man fought the Symbiote monster and managed to banish it back to its homeworld, but a piece of it was left behind which was claimed by Osborn.[63]
Earth-TRN1515[]
The Symbiotes were created by Knull to help him in conquering the universe, only to betray him and imprison their creator at the core of Klyntar. However, the Timestream Entanglement caused Knull to reawaken and slowly began regaining control of the Symbiotes.[64]
Earth-Unknown[]
End of Time[]
Over the course of millennia, the Symbiotes evolved into a harmonious race. As the Eighth Cosmos neared its end, the Symbiote hive formed the Last Hive to embrace itself for the universe to be reborn into the Ninth Cosmos. Unfortunately, they were suddenly attacked by Kang the Conqueror's ships. The Symbiotes attempted to fight back, but this compromised their defenses which allowed Meridius to insert himself into their hive. Gaining control of the hive, Meridius destroyed the consciousness of every single symbiote, and with them now completely braindead he used their bodies to sculpt the Garden of Time.[65]
