History
General Hager is a general in the U.S. Army. When an alien being known only as the Silver Surfer came to Earth, General Hager contacted Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four to investigate the alien's activities. The relationship between General Hager and the Fantastic Four became increasingly antagonistic, causing General Hager to bring in Victor von Doom to study the alien after he had been captured. However, Doom only came on to the project to get his hands on the Surfer's board, the source of its powers, and he soon betrayed General Hager, killing him.[1]
Notes
- The late Andre Braugher portrayed General Hager in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
- In the audio commentary for the home release of Rise of the Silver Surfer, director Tim Story revealed that General Hager's role was reconfigured from the scrapped plans to include Nick Fury in the movie. Fox approached Marvel about using Nick Fury, who wasn't included in the catalogue of characters whose movie rights the studio owned at the time, but the additional cost to purchasing Fury's rights caused the studio to desist from the idea during the scripting stage.[2] A vestige of the original plan to include Fury appears in the movie in the form of a conversation between General Hager and Reed Richards, which is almost taken word-for-word from an exchange between Mister Fantastic and Nick Fury in Ultimate Extinction #2.
