Gifted with clairvoyant abilities as a result of her innate connection to the supernatural, Tamlyn "Tulip" Hamato is a sardonic Japanese arms dealer who made a name for herself in the criminal underworld by selling powerful occult weapons to the highest bidders on the black market. Tulip's life became heavily intertwined with the notorious vampire slayer Blade, as she personally supplied him with the myriad of armaments he uses against the creatures of the night before eventually becoming romantically involved with the Daywalker himself.

History

In the aftermath of inadvertently unleashing a primordial God of Evil known as The Adana, Blade personally traveled to Japan alongside his new ally Rotha in order to call upon Tulip's help in the hopes that she could provide a weapon that could slay the eldritch entity. After saving her from nearly being shot by an infuriated client, Blade and Tulip spent the night together while the former elaborated on the crisis at hand, which confirmed Tulip's suspicions that a major shift has happened in the "Second World" due to experiencing a nightmarish vision of The Adana's rise days prior to Blade's arrival. Unfortunately, their reunion was cut short when heavily armed mercenaries stormed Tulip's penthouse with a helicopter gunship. While Blade was able to take out the gunship, Tulip was captured and delivered to the compound of Lord Daido, a decrepit immortal turned Yakuza boss who she previously swindled out of a fortune by selling him regular bullets instead of the zombie-creating munitions she initially promised.[1]

Blade and Rotha quickly mobilized to eliminate Lord Daido and his men while rescuing Tulip in the process. For the sake of calling it even, Tulip informed Blade and Rotha of a weapon that could potentially kill The Adana: Lucifier's sword Lightbringer, which was currently locked inside of an Adamantium high-speed train that doubles as the mobile fortress of a corporate war profiteer turned vampire named Hamilton Achilles. Tulip initially refused to help Blade and Rotha any further, claiming to have no interest in saving the world. But she inevitably caved as the stakes became too dire for her to sit idly by, choosing to instead fight alongside Blade and his allies against The Adana and her forces.[2]

After failing to prevent The Adana's ritual, resulting in a "primordial wave" that transformed millions of people across the planet into supernatural horrors, the God of Evil bonded a demon to Tulip's soul which caused the woman to suffer in perpetual agony seemingly to spite Blade. While Doctor Strange was unable to exorcise this demon, he granted her an enchanted pendant to keep the pain of her possession at bay. After Blade unlocked new vampiric abilities while training under his once despised enemy Dracula, Tulip joined him and his allies once more to wage a counter-offensive against The Adana, and eventually succeeded in slaying the eldritch entity's physical avatar.[3]

During the events of the Blood Hunt, Tulip recruited Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze of the Midnight Sons to help stop Blade after he had fallen under the possession of Varnae and was forced to murder an entire team of vampire hunters he had personally trained. Joined together by Victoria Montesi, the group made a detour to a hospital in Chicago where they discovered a gate to Hell had been opened. While the possessed Blade attempted to draw their attention away from the hospital, the Midnight Sons stood their ground and succeeded in closing the gate while purging a demonic entity that had passed through. After Varnae was finally defeated, Tulip reunited with Blade who had fled to a Buddhist temple in Thailand in order to lay low and come to terms with what he had done while under Varnae's influence.[4]
