History

The Terminal Armor was a design by Cybertek Systems, Inc., humanoid but slightly bigger than an adult male. The armors were different from each other, some of them having chest-mounted weapons, others hoses instead of hands, others extendable arms, etc,[1] and at least some had heat-based fire weapons.[2] In general the armors had plasm, ray and energy weapons, along with advanced sensors, encrypted radio communication, and technology to provide the user with superhuman strength. The battlesuits were armored to withstand gunfire. The armors could be controlled remotely, overriding the commands of the wearer.[1]

Cybertek used at least eight Terminal Armors in an operation to apprehend cyborg fugitive Deathlok, one of their developments who had escaped when the organic brain took over the controls. Once Deathlok was tracked to Coney Island amusement park, Cybertek sent their own cyborg contractor Mainframe to coordinate the operation from a van. Disregarding the security of civilians or park staff, Mainframe and the Terminal Armor wearers staged an open attack, wrecking the facilities as collateral damage, using civilians for cover and damaging the water flume in an attempt to lure Deathlok out. However, Deathlok managed to overpower and disarm the Terminal Armors. The users tried to escape, but Mainframe took contorl of the battlesuits, preventing that. Mainframe then arranged a second wave of attack using Dragonfly manned aircraft and the SQ Deep Sea Attack Craft. Cybertek head Harlan Ryker complained that the operation was attracting too much attention, and Mainframe allowed the Terminal users to retreat on their own while he focused on suceeding with the heavier weapons. He failed and Deathlok escaped, but Cybertek hid their involvement in the disaster.[1]

Cybertek tried to sell their weapons in Kobe, Japan, to Japanese entrepreneur Shiro Yoshida, who was associated with Yoritomo, a nationalist with his own secret, immoral plans. Yoritomo arranged for several agents dressed in newly-acquired Terminal Armors to try and assassinate Yoshida with flamethrowers, knowing well that Yoshida (also known as the superpowered mutant Sunfire with fire-based powers) would defeat them easily. Yoritomo only waned Yoshida to believe that Cybertek had betrayed him - and succeeded at it, but Yoshida soon discovered the truth.[2]

Many of Cybertek's designs and products ended up owned by AIM soon afterward when Cybertek was dismantled,[3] while other assets were sold by Roxxon to corporations like Magnum Munitions.[4]
