Tales to Astonish #69

Continuing from last issue, Giant-Man is chasing after the Human Top who has just captured the Wasp, however he soon loses his foe who has mastered the ability of flight with the help of his new costume. Once away from Giant-Man, the Top tries to get the Wasp to join his cause, explaining that her partner will be doomed once he stumbles upon the trap that he is preparing for him. Hoping to warn Giant-Man, the Wasp gives her wasp the command to tell Giant-Man where she is.

Back at his lab, Giant-Man is contacted by the Wasp's wasp, and uses it to fly to the location of the Top's hide out, however he manages to stumble into the Top's trap: a giant pit that where the Top will freeze Giant-Man into a block of ice. When the Wasp refuses to join the Top, he throws her into the pit as well to be frozen to death along side her comrade.

Giant-Man instructs the Wasp to shrink in size and climb into his costume, just before he is sprayed with quick freezing water and encased in a sheet of ice. Believing his foes are dead, the Top has the Giant-Man ice state lifted out of the pit, but is surprised when a normal size Giant-Man and Wasp bust out of the ice. Giant-Man explains that he waited for the outer layer of water to freeze before shrinking to normal size to free himself.

After a brief battle with the Top, the Top is knocked into his own trap and is frozen as well, then pulled out and thawed out before being turned over to the police. After the Top has been arrested, Giant-Man explains that his constant growing has affected his health and that continuing to do so may lead to his death, and so decides that it is time to retire from being a super-hero.

Strange Tales #150

Furious that Doctor Strange and the Ancient One had escaped his attack, Kaluu realizes that the two had used mystic candles to travel out into other realms to try and find the Book of Vishanti, the one thing that might defeat him, however when he tries to blow out the candles he finds that he is unable to do so.

Traveling through time and space, Doctor Strange and the Ancient One travel to Ancient Babalyonia and battle the Griffin, and finally find the Book of the Vishanti. Freeing the book, Strange returns to his Sanctum alone to use it against Kaluu. Attacking Strange with a mystic bolt, Kaluu doesn't expect Strange to use the book as a shield. The mystic bolt is deflected back at Kaluu stunning him.

From his Sanctum in the Himalayas, the Ancient One casts a spell that once again banishes Kaluu to another realm. While in the Dark Dimension, Clea fears that none other than Doctor Strange can hold back the Mindless Ones that had been kept in check during Dormammu's dominion over the realm. Synopsis for "From the Ashes of Defeat--!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Avengers #24

The story is continued from the last issue.

Kang makes his escape as his troops advance on the city. Although all seems hopeless, the Avengers decide to put up a fight against the never-ending army arrayed against them. Quicksilver is put out of action by a stray blast while trying to help a mother and child. The rest of the Avengers battle on but are eventually overwhelmed and captured.

Although Kang's law states that conquered monarchs are to be executed, Kang wants to marry Ravonna. Meanwhile, Quicksilver is nursed back to health by the mother he saved.

The rest of the generals, led by his second-in-command Baltag, rebel against Kang and try to assassinate him. Kang is therefore forced to team up with Captain America, Hawkeye and the Scarlet Witch to save Ravonna and liberate her civilization.

Baltag's forces are routed thanks in part to a recovered Quicksilver who rejoins the fray. Kang sends the Avenger back to their time just as Baltag leaps out and fires a shot at Kang. Captain America tries to warn him, but Ravonna leaps in the way and is shot herself. Kang's guards kill Baltag and the Avengers are transported away, leaving Ravonna dying in Kang's arms - unsure whether she will survive or die.
