History
Thanos helped a team of the last remaining heroes defeat Akhenaten by claiming the Heart of the Universe from the Celestial Order. Once he gained the Heart of The Universe he used its powers to change history, creating two alternate realities, one where Akhenaten and the Celestial Order were killed by a time-traveling Dr. Doom and one where the Celestial Order died in an explosion when they discovered the Heart of the Universe (thanks to his intervention).[1] After erasing himself from existence in order to set his universe right,[2] he apparently transferred his memories to his Earth-616 counterpart.[3]
