Synopsis

8 years ago, Reeva Payge's friend Benazir is killed in a fight with Purifiers outside of the community center where she and Reeva organize Chicago's mutant community. In the present, the Inner Circle prepares for their imminent attack on Creed Financial. They abduct Quinn, a banker who works for Creed and someone Reeva has been "dating" as a means to get close to him. The attack seems to go off perfectly. Quinn disables the bank's mutant detectors, allowing the Inner Circle to get inside. Once they have taken care of the building's other security measures, they round up the bank's employees and keep them in a room where the Frost sisters force one of them to - like was done to the hospital staff - of all the harm Creed Financial has done to mutants. Lorna, Andy and Rebecca break into the bank's vault, allowing Quinn to transfer the bank's records to the Inner Circle before wiping them clean. Reeva locks Quinn in with the rest of the bank's staff so they can make a clean getaway. Before they leave, however, the bank manager tells the Inner Circle he hopes they "rot in Hell." Rebecca refuses to let this go, and breaks from Reeva's plan by using her powers to kill everyone inside the room.

Meanwhile, the Mutant Underground moves Reed to the clinic, abandoned since the Purifiers attacked it. Johnny, Marcos, and Clarice argue with each other over how effective the Underground's tactics are, as more and more mutants are turning away from their message in favor of the Inner Circle's "Mutant Uprising." Marcos and Johnny find out Clarice has been working for Erg behind their backs. Caitlin and Lauren comb through Otto Strucker's research for a way to help Reed. Caitlin thinks the key might lie with Prof. Madeline Garber, who she suspects is Otto's former lab assistant Madeline Risman.

One of the Purifier's most powerful allies, impressed by the attack on the Underground's Baltimore station, wants to meet with Jace Turner. After agreeing to meet him in secret (and pass a test to prove he isn't a mutant), Turner discovers his contact is Benedict Ryan, a TV news pundit who pushes strong anti-mutant propaganda through his program. Ryan wants Turner to come on his show to talk about how the Sentinel Services covered up what happened in Atlanta to, as Ryan put it, "clear out the rot so we can finally fix the mutant problem." Turner, however, doesn't want to effectively throw his old friends under the bus like that, and turns down Ryan's offer. Wilson, however, reminds Turner that the Purifiers are the only friends he has anymore. Right before he is set to appear on Ryan's program, they get the news of the Inner Circle's attack against Creed Financial.
