History

Thena was an Eternal created by the Celestials in the World Forge. Over the course of her existence she aided the birth of many Celestials by protecting the native populations of their planet from Deviants until the Celestial could hatch from the planet. Like most other Eternals, she had her memories reset and stored in between the missions, believing herself to be from the planet called Olympia. However, the last of her memory uploads was imperfect and left Thena with the Mahd Wy'ry affliction. Although it took thousand years to manifest, she would occasionally snap into a murderous rage and attack her fellow Eternals.

7,000 years ago Thena was one of the ten Eternals assigned by Arishem to Earth, alongside Ajak, Kingo, Sprite, Phastos, Sersi, Druig, Gilgamesh, Makkari, and Ikaris. The Eternals initially settled in the ancient Babylon, advancing human development and protecting them from Deviants. After six and a half thousand years, the last Deviants on Earth were believed to be destroyed and Ajak told the others that their mission was over and to go their own ways and live lives among the Humans. It was then that Thena's Mahd Wy'ry first became known and Gilgamesh volunteered to look over and take care of her. They eventually settled in the remote wilderness of Australia, living in isolation.

In 2023 the Blip suddenly restored half of the humanity snapped by Thanos back to life, accelerating the awakening of the Celestial Tiamut, which in turn caused Thena's condition to worsen. The Deviants have suddenly reappeared when a few survivors were thawed off from spending thousands of years trapped in the ice. Gilgamesh and Thena were visited by Sersi, Ikaris, Sprite and Kingo, who informed them that Ajak was killed by the Deviants. While there Sersi first talked to Arishem, who revealed to her the true origin of the Eternals and the Deviants and that their true role was preparing the worlds to be destroyed in the Emergence of new Celestials, which would soon be the case with Tiamut on Earth. Deciding to try and postpone the end of the world, the Eternals went to see Druig in the Amazon Jungle, where an attack by Deviants killed Gilgamesh. The others returned to the Domo and reunited with Makkari. However, Ikaris was revealed as the one behind Ajak's death, being loyal to Arishem and their cause of awakening Tiamut. Sprite chose to follow him, while Kingo believed in the same cause but refused to fight the others and left.

The remaining five Eternals planned to form the Uni-Mind and have Druig put Tiamut back to sleep until they could find a way to awaken him without destroying the Earth in process. This attempt was violently stopped by Ikaris, negating that option. Makkari and Phastos fought Ikaris, while Thena dueled and killed the Deviant Kro who killed Ajak and Gilgamesh. Eventually, the Eternals formed the Uni-Mind which empowered Sersi and enabled her to to turn Tiamut to stone before he could fully awake. Ikaris then departed, while Sersi turned Sprite into a Human with what was left of the Uni-Mind's power. Afterwards, Sersi, Phastos and Kingo planned to resume their lives among the Humans while Druig, Makkari and Thena departed the planet aboard the Domo to look for other Eternals. However, they soon lost contact with their family on Earth and realized that Arishem got to them. While debating on what to do next, they were surprised to see a fellow Eternal Eros teleport aboard their ship.[1]
