History

No Freedom[]

Third Eye was one of the many mutants who accepted citizenship of the sovereign mutant island-nation Krakoa. Being able to perform astral projection, he has a connection to the occult, being a conjure man. At some point, he judged that mutant reproduction was relatively reckless and foresaw that many mutant children would be deprived of proper care. As such, he shared a discourse among the Krakoan population about pregnancy prevention. The nation's birthrate dropped by a quarter due to his actions. Since one of the laws of Krakoa incentivized mutant reproduction,[2] Third Eye was sentenced and convicted to the Pit of Exile by the Quiet Council.[3]

He was banished alongside Nekra, Oya, Madison Jeffries, and Melter, who were charged with other crimes. They were greeted there by the Pit's then-sole resident: Sabretooth, who had been able to commune with the captivity's illusory environment and planned to torture them as practice.[4] However, as Sabretooth attempted to hunt them all down in his mental world, Third-Eye was able to use his powers to break the illusion. He was also able to astral-project himself to seek out Sabretooth's old victim Mole for help. Simultaneously, Third Eye convinced Sabretooth that the other inmates were not the ones he should hunt down, so he reshaped Sabretooth's hellish illusion into a jail environment to direct their rage against their jailers.[3]

Exile[]

Sabretooth taught his fellow convicts to channel their consciousnesses through the island, so they could manifest themselves on land. He sent everyone up the surface on missions to gather allies to help in their quest; instead of following his orders Third Eye went back to talk to Mole, who was able to spread the word about the captive mutants among unprivileged citizens in Krakoa.[5] One of the mutants was Magma, who caused a volcanic eruption on Krakoa. As a result, the island drained the energy of its citizens, temporarily putting them to sleep. Sabretooth took the opportunity to escape the Pit and Krakoa. Speaking on Krakoa's behalf, the linguist Cypher then broke the other inmates free and asked them to intercept Sabretooth in exchange for their freedom.[6]

Forever banished from Krakoa, the group of castaway mutants was baptized as the Exiles. Third Eye used his psychic connection with Sabretooth to track him. Sabretooth had been apprehended by the anti-mutant organization Orchis, being tortured and experimented on by the sadistic Doctor Barrington. The Exiles arrived at an island station of Orchis and were intercepted by Barrington's agents. The unattended Sabretooth made his escape and offered the Exiles salvation.[1]

Attributes

Powers

Third Eye is a psychic mutant who has an apparent connection to the occult. He has manifested the following abilities:

  • Astral Projection: Third Eye can project an astral form of himself away from his physical body. He can interact with others in this state if we wishes so, so he can be perceived by others' senses even if they do not have psychic abilities.[3] However, he can also choose to render himself undetectable, though strong telepaths might be able to identify him.[2]
  • Illusion Perception: Third Eye can identify fabricated simulations, being able to break free of illusions and see the truth of his actual surroundings. He was able to overcome the effects of the Pit of Exile illusory environment and even reshape it.[3]
  • Precognition: Third Eye apparently haw some level of precognition, being able to foresee future events. He argued that he could predict that mutant children would be thrown into abandonment due to the Krakoan reckless policy of unchecked reproduction.[2]
