I'm have some questions about why people are putting certain characters in the Antagonist section. I'm seeing a lot of characters listed as minor appearances appearing in the Antagonist section. Mentions, Recaps, etc.
As I understand it, the antagonist section is for characters that are involved in the active conflict of a story. Mentions and the like should really go into the Other Characters section. For example, I am seeing a lot of pages where someone like Thanos is mentioned. Whoever is entering in the data, they put Thanos as an antagonist. Regardless of the context of the mention in the story.
The assumption is that because Thanos is typically considered a villain, a mention of him in this story would make him an antagonist. I don't think that is appropriate. In a lot of cases, this mention is merely referential, or at least a passing reference. Thanos isn't even directly involved in the conflict in question.
I'll give a comparable example on why I don't fee this shouldn't be done:
Let's say we've got an issue of Iron Man. Somewhere in the story, someone mentions Doctor Strange. We don't put Doctor Strange in the supporting characters section or even a feature character. He is only being mentioned, therefore we put in him in Other Characters.
So, why, are we putting Thanos in the Antagonist section if he is only being mentioned? Doesn't make any sense.
