On behalf of the administrative team, I want to congratulate you all on being promoted to Moderators. In this welcome post, we want to highlight a few things about the moderator role and what we expect from you with these powers.
Firstly, you've been granted the following powers:
- Rollback - Pretty straight forward, you have the ability to rollback any unconstructive edits
- Delete/Undelete pages - Again, straight forward. You now have the ability to delete and undelete pages. Category:To Be Deleted is where all pages marked with the Deletion tag are housed. If you use this power, we want you to use strong discretion in the deletion process. If you have any questions, we urge you to ask one of the admins.
- Overwrite existing files - When on a file page, you will now have an option in the drop-down menu called "Replace", which will allow you to upload a new version of a file under the same file name. This is most often used to replace small or low-quality files with better versions.
- Protect/unprotect pages - Not used very often, but you have the options to now protect a page, which will prevent users outside a certain user group from editing a page. Currently, you can only confine it to stop edits from "New and unregistered users" or to allow only administrators to edit.
- Move files - The images waiting on a rename are housed in Category:Move Image. If you decide to take on the task of moving an image, we want you to first make sure the new name 1) makes sense and 2) follows our naming conventions. You must also be sure to correct any links to the image on the site. You should have been granted this power when we promoted you, but we've been informed that some (likely all) of you don't have access to this. We are working with Wikia to correct this, and will update you when we've corrected the issue.
Additionally, we have two other powers that normally don't come included with the Content Moderator user group, but we are looking into our options to grant them to you. Those powers are:
- Moving Pages
- Deleting Files
We don't see why you can move files and delete pages, but not the other way around. Once we have more info, we'll update you guys on it.
Additionally, you are reading this post in a newly created Moderator forum. You are free to do with this forum as you please, whether you want to organize task lists, or simply have a place to discuss non-public issues. The admin team will also use this forum to communicate with you on topics, or to ask for your input on various subjects.
Finally, while this is in no way a guarantee, with the introduction of the Moderator group, you will be the pool of users the admin team looks at when the time comes to promote new admins. And since you are all very active members of the site, we will also be taking your input on users you believe would make good moderators.
Again, congrats on your promotions, and we look forward to working with you.
P.S., I've also added you all to the .css files, so your names should get the admin treatment, and be given your own group-specific color. Whenever your name is linked, it will appear said color, to differentiate you as a moderator, including in edit histories, talk page signatures, or direct links in pages.
