Thurania was a nation of the Pre-Cataclysmic Age,[3] That minor kingdom[5] of small principalities[7] was located on the continent of Thuria, bordered at west by Kamelia, at south by the jungles separating them from the pre-human civilization, at east by Grondar, and at north by Commoria.[4]

Thurania was set south of Zarfhaana,[2][4] its hereditary enemy[3] whom Thurania sought to rival.[5]

History

Early years[]

Several centuries before the Age of Kull, Thurania was ruled by a cruel king. Learning of a fabulous treasure hidden on the isle of Atlantis, he summoned Shemenon, his greatest warrior, and ordered him to retrieve the treasure. To ensure his obedience, he imprisoned Byrana. Shemenon found the treasure but was turned into a gemstone-bodied creature.[8]

Age of Kull[]

Circa 18,500 BC, Thurania was a minor kingdom[5] of small principalities.[7]

Ducalon, count of Komahar, entered in leagues with Thuranian shaman Melkori in a plot to overthrow King Kull of Valusia.[9]

Great Cataclysm[]

In 18,000 BC, Atlantis sank beneath the ocean during what is known as the Great Cataclysm. This event changed the landscape of the world which would be become known as Hyboria.

For the full presentation of this event, please consult the Great Cataclysm page.

Legacy[]

Due to the statement that the Hyborian Kingdoms of Koth, Ophir, and Corinthia "regained their independence with the fall of the empire" of Acheron, a theory asserted that those three kingdoms may had not been founded by the Hyborians (unlikely to have dominated those kingdoms at the dawn of Acheron), but by refugees from Valusia, Thurania, and Zarfhaana, rebuilding their culture while the Hyborians were still in the Far North.[10]

Facts[]

The Doom-Dancers of Thurania seemingly performed horrific dances.[11] The purpose of those dancers remains unrevealed.
