History
Eons ago, Gitche Manitou (the Great Spirit of the Manidoog) emerged from the extradimensional realm of Giizhigong into an endless void of nothingness and created the elements of rock, fire, wind and water. Afterwards, working with his son Tawa, Gitche Manitou created Tokpela, the first mortal world, out of the void of nothingness, as well as Sotuknang, the first mortal being who was to act as their instrument and model the world according to their universal plan.[1][2]
Ruled by the spider woman known as Koyangwuti, Tokpela was a lush world teeming with birds and dense canopies of tall trees. At first, there was no sickness or disease in Tokpela. However, evil eventually entered Tokpela and the inhabitants of this mortal realm became corrupted, engaging in a struggle for material wealth and power that eventually led to their destruction. As fires consumed Tokpela and its inhabitants, the Second World, known as Topka, was born. The remnants of Tokpela and its survivors continued to exist, however, as one of the “Secret Worlds” guarded by the Ghost Dancer.[1][2]
In modern times, James Owl visited Tokpela while on a vision quest to determine his worthiness to become the next Ghost Dancer.[1]Residents
