Born circa 1900, Topher became a vampire at age sixteen. He earned a fortune on the stock market following the Great Depression. Circa the 1940s, he transformed at least one person into a vampire; he likely transformed several others over the years. He spent the next several decades as one of the idle rich, and little else is known of his life save that he fed upon at least one mutant in 1979. Circa 2001, he lost his fortune following the dot.com bubble economic crisis. Accompanied by two minions, male and female, one of them his 1940s transformation, he turned to crime. In recent years, while robbing a convenience store in Los Feliz, California, he and his minions encountered the Runaways. His minions fled, and to gain the Runaways trust, Topher pretended they were his parents and had forced him into criminal activity. Team leader Alex Wilder recognized Topher’s deception but invited him to the Runaways Hostel base, expecting him to turn on the team and provide combat experience. Topher created a wedge in the team by romantically pursuing both Nico Minoru and Karolina Dean, then, as expected, fought the team and attempted to feed. He was destroyed when he fed on Karolina’s solar-charged blood. The Runaways’ parents, the Pride, subsequently killed Topher’s minions via sunlight.

Powers

In addition to typical vampiric traits – enhanced strength, speed and endurance, plus virtual immortality and the ability to transform others into vampires – Topher was resistant to attacks that customarily kill vampires, including fire and penetration of the heart by wood. Such attacks could injure him, but he healed in a matter of seconds. He could only be killed by sunlight or, as proved to be the case, ingestion of blood from solar-powered beings. He could sense the condition of vampires he had created over the distances of at least several miles.
