Synopsis for "Crossroad (Part II)"

Rick Jones just learned he has been chosen as the new super hero, and isn't taking it as the best of news. After some convincing, Spider-Man, the Human Torch, and Iceman teleport to Project Pegasus, in Wyoming, to see if the Watchers are still there, but they are not, instead, are the Serpent Squad. After some fighting, Rick teleports the Serpent Squad away, in front of authorities. Rick later realizes that he is a super hero, giving himself the name of Nova, and then leaves to find out everything about his new gift.

Solicit Synopsis

Spider-Man and his amazing friends are there for the birth of a brand new hero!! Who is he? What is his name? Here’s a hint: It’s a name that will make you burst out in applause!! He’s set to be major player in the Ultimate Universe, so be there as hotshot creators BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS (ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN) and TAKESHI MIYAZAWA (RUNAWAYS) bring you his big debut!

  • Jonny recounts the Fantastic Four's encounter with the Watchers, as happened back in Ultimate Origins Vol 1 5. He also declares that the whole team thought that one of them had been chosen as the Watchers' herald, which is something of an exaggeration. Jonny certainly thought he'd been chosen, but nothing in that issue suggested the others thought the same.
  • Wendell Vaughn's last scene in this issue has him guessing he'll be fired. When he next appears in Ultimate Enemy, he's still at Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., in the exact same position. Not bad for someone in charge during such a major security breach of a classified government facility.
  • Among the various suggested names Spidey, Iceman and Jonny give Rick at the end of the issue are The Leaper, the Sentry, the Transporter, Captain Marvel, the Human Leaper and Marvel Man. Rick Jones seems to think Marvel Man at least has some potential. It probably isn't reaching to suggest that this is a nod to his Earth-616 counterpart's former partnership with the original Captain Marvel.

  • The Infinity Gauntlet is seen among Project Pegasus' storage, along with what looks like a Cosmic Cube, the Wand of Watoomb, and the Casket of Ancient Winters. Anaconda is first seen holding an Ultimate Nullifier, wanting to take it with her.
