Synopsis for "A Tale of Family Loyalty and Sibling Rivalry - "Growing Pains""

Cannonball visits the Massachusetts Academy and, after a tense encounter with the White Queen, meets with his sister Husk. He informs her that their younger sister, Joelle, has become involved with an older man named Preacher and an anti-mutant organization called Humanity’s Last Stand. Preacher has strange visions of apocalyptic futures caused by mutants and paints what he sees.

Cannonball and Husk, accompanied by their X-Men teammates Wolverine, Storm, and Bishop, head to Kentucky. There, they meet their mother, Lucinda, and most of their siblings. Tensions arise between Husk and Lucinda, and their brother Josh is becoming rebellious. Lucinda shares her concerns about Joelle and Humanity’s Last Stand. Cannonball asks the X-Men to stay out of it as it's a family matter.

Cannonball and Husk attend a rally by Humanity’s Last Stand, where Preacher speaks against mutants. They are targeted by armored operatives sent by someone watching on security cameras. Cannonball is attacked and forced to retreat, while Husk follows Preacher and Garibaldi into some caverns. There she overhears a conversation which includes the name Trask.

While Cannonball asks the rest of the X-Men for their support, Preacher informs Joelle that they must leave, and she realizes that Preacher saw Husk being beaten.

The X-Men arrive at the compound, locate Husk, and rescue her. They confront the operatives which Wolverine recognizes as Nimrods. Bishop is the one to defeat the robots by trapping them in a cave-in. The X-Men, Husk, and Joelle escape.

Notes

  • Joelle and Melodie are technically villains, as they do attack the X-Men. However, they were unaware of their true actions and were possibly brainwashed by 'Trask'.
