Synopsis for "Apocalypse Lives"
The being known as Ozymandias is both blessed and cursed with eternal life, He was once a king but now serves the powerful Apocalypse who has just awakened from a long regeneration period.
Ozymandias informs Apocalypse of the significant changes that have occurred during his slumber, including the fall of Charles Xavier and the fusion of Magneto and Professor X into a being called Onslaught. Apocalypse, observing the heavens and sensing the presence of Uatu the Watcher, realizes the "Age of Wonders" is ending.
In Salem Center, the Avengers fly over the devastated Xavier Institute. The Quinjet's sensors detect no life signs, but Nate Grey senses the X-Men's presence except for Xavier. As the Avengers land, they are attacked by Gambit, leading to a brief skirmish between the Avengers and X-Men, who eventually recognize each other and decide to collaborate against Onslaught. The Avengers are shocked by the revelation that Professor X seems to be in part responsible for the destruction of his own school.
Meanwhile, on Muir Island, Moira MacTaggert informs the members of Excalibur that the key to defeating Onslaught might lie in the "Xavier Protocols".
In the subbasement of the mansion, Bishop grapples with his failure to prevent the betrayal he foresaw. He apologizes to Gambit whom Bishop thought to be the traitor, but Gambit is not resentful at all. Meanwhile, Cyclops and Phoenix prepare to head to Muir Island to uncover more about the Xavier Protocols. Storm expresses concern for Cable, suspecting he might also be a target for Onslaught due to his formidable powers. As Storm decides to find Cable, Wolverine also goes on a solo mission as he intends to help his friend Charles in his own way.
In Manhattan, Dark Beast has brought Onslaught into his base in the Morlock tunnels. Onslaught is planning to dominate the world and punish humanity for its ignorance and arrogance. At the same time, Charles Xavier, trapped within Onslaught, silently rages as his dream of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants fades.
