Synopsis for "The Change in Ourselves"
Becca Simon-Pinette grew up by her mother, who lied to keep her out of public school and kept her sheltered on their Virginia estate. Today, she refuses the Haven House's rule requiring her to go to school, directing her horse Ember to kick Wolverine through some trees before Rogue makes her stop. Gambit takes the girl aside and helps the girl to accept that she is a mutant, prompting her and Ember to fly into the sky with joy before coming back down for hugs and apologies. As the Outliers prepare to board the school bus, Chelsea St. Johns offers her toy animal Tuffy to Becca to help her cope with not being allowed to bring Ember. On the bus, the kids are bullied, and Valentin chastises Deathdream for not standing up for Sofia. Marcus St. Johns sends Nightcrawler and Jubilee to pick up groceries. In the middle of shopping, Nightcrawler teleports away to save a child playing in the street from oncoming traffic. He receives heartfelt thanks from her mother before she sends him off to evade police capture. Back inside, a man attempts to hold Jubilee at gunpoint but is knocked into the shelves by her powers before Siryn, Blob, and Wild Child demand she come with them. When Nightcrawler returns, blood covers the wrecked store and his teammate is nowhere to be found. He calls Rogue, interrupting a serious conversation after she has told Wolverine he has PTSD, and she tells him to come home so they can find her. At school, the Outliers meet Principal Owens, who tells them to keep a low profile. Deathdream uses his powers to get some revenge on the bullies, who find him and grab him before Ransom jumps in to beat on the bullies, sending them running. Meanwhile, Becca is sent by a student to the auditorium, where Dr. Ellis' men incapacitate her.
