History
The Unguda River Valley was in Ethiopia, not far from Addis Ababa.[1]
In 1941,[2][3] during the Italian fascist occupation of Ethiopia, a column of fascist tanks set up camp in the jungle to crush a British force advancing through Italian East Africa from Kenya, and which could prevent East Africa from contacting Italian Somaliland. The Italians, hidden in the Unguda River Valley, could easily ambush and finish off the British.[1] British jungle adventurer Ka-Zar the Great opposed the Italians in Ethiopia and, after destroying the Italian garrison in Addis Ababa with an army of jungle animals,[4] encountered these fascists by chance; but was unable to attack them directly because his forces, reduced to only a few animals, were outnumbered. Ka-Zar ordered his animals to await his orders under the command of the elephant Trajah, and he attempted to infiltrate the camp, but was discovered and captured. The fascist commander, offended by Ka-Zar's arrogance, tied Ka-Zar to a tree to be riddled with bullets during the battle's crossfire; but the fascist was unaware of Ka-Zar's animals. Through Pindar the eagle, Ka-Zar sent a message to Chaka, alpha male of a tribe of monkeys, requesting that the monkey release him by nightfall while Pindar found out exactly where the English were. After being released and discovering that the British were still a day's march away, Ka-Zar stole explosives from the camp to place at the base of a natural dam, and detonated them, flooding the barracks.[1] After that, Ka-Zar continued his campaigns against the Axis in Somaliland and elsewhere in Africa.[5][2][3]See Also
