Synopsis for 1st story
In Cresskill at the Van Dyne Residence, Janet cannot get any sleep as her cell phone rings and wakes her up despite the tips and tricks from her many years among the Avengers. Janet narrates how important sleep is and how you need to change your lifestyle, from how long she can stay out with friends or scheduling daily exercise by meeting Black Widow to beat up thugs, and how she needs a set time to just enjoy herself, like relaxing in a bubble bath reading some magazines. Finally answering the phone, Matt Murdock calls Janet to inform her of "unsavory gentlemen" when a loud boom occurs from a bomb.
Once Matt hangs up, Janet hastily gets dressed and arrives shortly after the first responders, concluding her earlier narration on how when she does get to sleep is when something terrible always happens. At Nadia's home, S.H.I.E.L.D. is on scene as Matt explains how unknown agents attempted to abduct Nadia and friends. As Jarvis fails to reassure Nadia that the EMTs will look out for Ying, Janet fails to reassure her too as Nadia believes the EMTs to be spies who may kill Ying or worse. Despite having had PTSD and an abusive past, Janet errors in grabbing Nadia by the hand to stop her and Nadia reflexively strike Janet in the face. Once Janet falls down, a guilty Nadia shrinks to pursues the ambulance, and Janet asks Matt to get her paper towels.
Janet tasks Jarvis with taking the other girls home while she goes to talk with Nadia, finding her at the New Jersey Medical Center performing takedowns on medical staff demanding to see Ying, in the middle of emergency surgery. Recognizing the look in Nadia's sorrowful eyes as idenical to Hank's, Janet talks her down and reassures her that she's not at fault. Using a SHILED app to identify all hospital staff, Nadia paces awaiting Ying's recovery and receives texts from Priya and Shay that their parents are pulling them out of G.I.R.L. after what happened, depressing Nadia more. To keep her mind off the issue, Janet asks Nadia to talk about events until Nadia falls asleep.
Letting her rest, Janet steps outside thinking about the misconceptions fans have about her being on the Avengers, before calling Shonda who works for Senator Cory Booker, selling him on a PR boost for his next campaign. Janet proceeds to call on Police Commissioner Jimmy O'Neill about the robbery at the Aggarwal store[1], Matt Murdock about the DNA test, then Jarvis to update him on Nadia's well being while asking for the contact info for the Aggarwal and Miranda households. Calling Warden Harrison and then Bobbi Morse, Janet has to end another call with Dr. Jamison prematurely upon finding herself met with Whirlwind and Beetle. As Whirlwind explains they were contracted by |Russians for their property returned, Beetle tries and fails to shoot Janet, who shrunk and resized to knock down Beetle from behind before knocking Whirlwind off the roof.
As soon as Beetle recovers, they brawl down the emergency staircase as Beetle explains she has power armor; which Janet realizes she didn't think to account for. Crashing into the lobby, Whirlwind argues with Beetle not realizing Janet and Nadia both shrank to sabotage Beetle's gear, then play at surrendering as Beetle is incapacitated. As Whirlwind causing a torrent, Janet is struck by a chair before the villain looms over Nadia, only for Ying to recover and go full assassin on him until Nadia stops her from killing.
With the threat over with, Nadia and Ying voice their being hungry and Janet inviting them to stay at her home to have tacos; a new experience for them both. Holding the two girls in her arms, Janet thinks to herself how she wasn't the mom type, having stabbed Clint Barton once to state otherwise, but now cannot imagine herself letting either of them go and wanting them to stay; even after a broken nose and sleep deprivation. At Janet's place, as the girls enjoy their tacos, Janet couldn't be happier to play the role of step-mother for them.
