We reject isolation. We breathe as one. We inhale deeply of Unveil.

Murshid En Sabah Nur[source]

Sharesse, better known as Unveil, was a young mutant from Barbados, recruited by Murshid En Sabah Nur to be part of his X-Tracts a semi-religious group that opposed the ruling of X-Man, the X-Men and the Department X over the Age of X-Man plane.[2][1]

She was a key member of the group, protecting them from telepathic influence of X-Man. Unveil participated in multiple missions,[1][4] but eventually learned what she was secretly manipulated by En Sabah Nur and used by him to unintentionally influence her friends to made them unquestionably loyal to Nur and what entire resistance was a sham orchestrated by X-Man.[5][3][6]

When everyone learned the truth and decided to return to the original reality, the Age of X-Man plane perished.[6] It is unknown if Unveil was one of the mutants from original reality and returned back into it, or if she was among majority of the inhabitants of the Age of X-Man, created by X-Man and Life Seed and perished when it was recreated from scratch.

History

Origin[]

Sharesse was a young mutant from Barbados.[2] When her powers manifested, she used them to connect people who had feelings for each other, but were unable to express them, because any "intimate activities" were illegal. Eventually, her actions were discovered by other people on the island. Labeled degenerate and a "passion criminal" she was attacked and cast out of her homeland.[3] She experienced great horrors and was saved by Murshid En Sabah Nur.[1]

Nur saw the true nature of Sharesse's power and recognized how powerful and dangerous she could be, because her mists could make people see and believe what she wanted them to, share her viewpoint and give their lives cause and purpose. This was the way to build an army, so Sharesse could become a Horsemean of Apocalypse, a Horseman of War.[3]

X-Tracts[]

Sharesse joined En Sabah Nur's X-Tracts and started to use her powers to help his cause.[1] Named Unveil, she became the key member of the X-Tracts. Thanks to her, they were protected from X-Man's telepathy and Department X.[2] Unveil's mist was gathered into vials and distributed among the members of the X-Tracts.[2] Some vials also ended up in the hands of the Resistance. Scripture, Brother Japheth, Sister Tromette and Brother Hammil used Unveil to protect their minds. At some point they contacted and recruited Anole and also gave him several vials of Unveil.[7]

Shiro Yoshida gave lecture to the students of the Summers Institute for Higher Learning about Unveil, presenting it as a drug and urging the students to look out for each other and report to the teachers if they suspect what someone is using Unveil.[8]

Unveil helped Nur to free Kitty Pryde and Genesis from the Wyngarde Rehabititation Institute.[1]

Omega Red[]

Murshid En Sabah Nur sent Unveil, Dazzler, Eye-Boy and Genesis to Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan to rescue Omega Red and bring him with them, before he could be captured and enslaved by the X-Men.[9]

In Semipalatinsk they were attacked by the Department X who also came looking for Omega Red. X-Tracts managed to escape and hide from them in Unveil's mist, but shortly after entire team of Department's agents was slaughtered by Omega Red.[1] Unveil and Dazzler discovered many dozens of Semipalatinsk's citizens killed by Omega Red as well, so they attacked Omega Red. At first they were able to suppress him, but, affected by his Death Spores, they were eventually defeated and almost killed.[4] Genesis saved them, but he himself was killed by Omega Red.[5]

Truth[]

Soon after the X-Tracts returned to New York City with Genesis' body, Eye-Boy accidently saw the meeting between Murshid En Sabah Nur and their supposed enemy X-Man. As it turned out, Genesis' death was orchestrated by Nur. Nur and X-Man were working together, Nur was playing the role of villain in X-Man's perfect world and entire resistance was a sham, a means for X-Man to better control the world.[5][6]

Eye-Boy told the truth to others and they were shocked by Nur's betrayal and how they hadn't noticed anything before. Dazzler confronted Unveil, after witnessing how in Semipalatinsk Unveil was able to influence the citizens and force their actions, Dazzler asked if Unveil ever did the same to the X-Tracts. Unveil was enraged by this accusation, but soon remembered words of En Sabah Nur about her power during their first meeting. She realized what she was unintentionally influencing her friends to made them unquestionably loyal to Nur.[3]

X-Tracts confronted En Sabah Nur and he revealed the truth about Age of X-Man and their original reality. The team was soon attacked by X-Man and the X-Men,[3] but Unveil escaped with En Sabah Nur.[6]

Death?[]

The conflict ended with everyone learning the truth about this plane. While some of the X-Men wanted to stay in the Age of X-Man, majority decided to leave and return back to original reality. The only way to do so, was to kill X-Man with the Life Seed, as the plane was created by him and Seed's power, so it could be destroyed only by them as well. Magneto used the Seed and plane was seemingly destroyed. However, in truth Magneto left part of himself in the Age of X-Man and together he and Nate decided to start anew.[6]

It is unknown if Unveil was one of the mutants from original reality and returned back into it, or if she was among majority of the inhabitants of the Age of X-Man, created by X-Man and Life Seed and perished when it was recreated from scratch.

Attributes

Powers

Gas Mimicry: Unveil was a mutant with power to transform her body fully or partially into multicolored mist.[2] When completely transformed, she can't be injured[4] and can control the flow of the mist through the air, allowing her to infiltrate any area by squeezing the mist through tight passages.[1] However, other properties of the mist were much more important:

  • Physical, Technological and Telepathic Undetectability: Anyone who inhales Unveil's mist becomes completely undetectable; they couldn't be discovered by physical senses, telepathy or technological sensors like thus of the Sentinels.[2][1] X-Tracts carried vials with Unveil's mist with them for emergencies when they needed to quickly hide from Department X.[2]
  • Memory Restoration: The mist restores erased memories. However, its effect was limited to the memories in the Age of X-Man plane, it was unable to restore person's true memories from original reality.[7]
  • Mind Link: Anyone within the mist would be mentally connected to each other and be able to exchange thoughts.[2]
    • Trust Inducement: Unveil can subconsciously affect other people connected to her via mist, instilling her own believes into them, share her viewpoint and give their lives cause and purpose. She wasn't aware of this effect until Dazzler pinpointed it. This power was actually a reason why Apocalypse recruited her and named her his Horseman of War.[5][3]

Weaknesses

Her mist can affect the person only when it is inhaled.[4]

Trivia

  • Unveil seems to prefer to not wear any clothes and cover parts of her body in mist instead.
