History
Origins[]
Vârcolac was a Wolf Lord, spawn of Chthon created by mystic experiments on early humanity, beasts and demons. Vârcolac was the most feared Wolf Lord, who was a relentless murderous hunter. At some point he mated with Echidna and produced Angerboda, who in turn spawned the Midgard Serpent and the Fenris Wolf.[8]
Vârcolac spawned the Wolf-Men.[5] The Caretakers of Arcturus took Vârcolac's magic and combined it with genetic engineering to create Werewolves. They bound the spirit and DNA of the wolf Windracer to a human, creating Greysire. From Greysire the curse of lycanthropy was spread to the rest of humanity via bites and scratches.[9][5]
Vârcolac was able to influence a werewolf's beastial form, assisting in werewolves to become more feral. Vârcolac acted this way for centuries, which included Jack Russell and his ancestor, influencing werewolves in secret, allowing himself to be forgotten.[5]
At some point, three items were created that allowed their wielders to overthrow/control Vârcolac, the Wolfsblade, a "Magic Bullet" and a wooden piece with an eye. The Third Moon Cult attempted to use the blade on it's own but they themselves fell under the control of Vârcolac and began to sacrifice humans to their new master. The eye was kept in a wooden box which Vârcolac kept in his possession in Hell. Over the years many tried and failed to obtain it.[10]
In the Modern Age, Vârcolac and his domain began to appear to Jack during his transformations, allowing Jack to discover the control Vârcolac asserted over his werewolf form. Jack discovered the existence of the Cult and tracked down the first two items. Traveling to Vârcolac's realm, Vârcolac transformed into a young boy and brought the box containing the third item. Jack showed disinterest in the item which angered Vârcolac who transformed into a giant monster, comprised of the different bodies of the werewolves who were trapped in his dimension and attack Jack. The pair fought until Jack took a stick to knock the box off of it's pedestal and obtained the third item. The three pieces allowed Jack to defeat Vârcolac.[10]Trivia
