—Dr. Valerie Cooper[source]You know, in Genosha, I felt a lot of things. Pain, grief, admiration for those who fought, despite the odds. But you know what the oddest thing was? No one seemed shocked or surprised. Not even me. Yes, I was scared, but really, I just had the most profound sense of déjà vu. As if past, present and future didn't matter and never had. Because we always end up in the same ugly place. Thing is, Magneto knows us better than Charles ever did. Knows we know better. That most of us experience tragedies like Genosha as a bit of déjà vu before getting on with our day. But the scariest thing about Genosha wasn't the death or the chaos. It was a thought. The only sane thought you can have when being chased by giant robots that were built to crush you. Magneto was right.
History
An old friend of Charles Xavier, Dr. Valerie Cooper became a United Nations liaison to the X-Men after his death. She arrived with a team to apprehend Bolivar Trask after the X-Men had destroyed his second Master Mold.[1]
She later showed up with a team of armed men at the X-Mansion to apprehend its new headmaster Magneto for his crimes. After Magneto voluntarily surrendered himself, Val Cooper was present at his trial at the United Nations that resulted in his pardon.[2]
She was revealed to be secretly a member of OZT the entire time she worked with the X-Men. During the Massacre on Genosha, which she was not warned about, she was injured and went into hiding, being presumed dead in the aftermath. She regrouped with Bastion and had a crisis of conscience, which led her to release the imprisoned Magneto, as she finally realized that Magneto was right all along about human and mutant coexistence being an impossible achievement.[3]See Also
