Synopsis for "The Sacred and the Profane: Part IV"

A while ago, Mephisto concludes a snappy telephone conversation with Satanish to talk with Grim Reaper, Eric Williams, and tells him with his constant switching between being alive or dead, he'd be perfect for this new gig involving a new Valkyrie.

Now, in Jane's apartment, she's talking with her friend and confidante Lisa Halloran, of Damage Control, about her letting her winged horse, Mr. Horse, live with her there in the apartment. Jane has an excuse for all of Lisa's arguments against, not the least of which being that when Jane was demoted by Regina Hagen to working with Dr. Gillespie in the morgue, she's getting low on funds. Jane thinks they need a change of scene and suggests they go to a lecture by Dr. Annabelle Riggs, noted archaeologist.

Earlier, Mephisto tries to explain to the rather dull-witted Grim Reaper that he's made a deal with Hela that gave him ownership over the Disir, a group of dead Valkyries. He inserted a loophole in the deal that if there should be no Valkyries left, his Disir become the new Valkyries, controlled by him, of course. Counting on the fact that all the Valkyries died, Mephisto learns there's been a slight monkey wrench thrown in with the appearance of the one new live Valkyrie.

Jane and Lisa show up during the last five minutes of Dr. Riggs' talk and Jane, considering this is the archaeologist who once shared bodies with Brunnhilde, might have some answers for her questions. Miffed that the ladies entered her lecture late, Riggs blows them off when Jane offers to buy her coffee after she's done.

At that point an audience member rises and introduces himself as Doctor Strange and asks Riggs about the large purple mirror behind her. After she describes it, Strange tells her every few hundred years its magic properties are activated and it's due to begin in four minutes, and he'd like to remove it to his sanctum sanctorum. Unfortunately Strange's watch is off and the mirror begins to emit a purple glow. As the glow intensifies, Strange explains to Riggs that it is a portal to the Purple Dimension where dangerous criminals are housed, especially three of his own enemies.

Suddenly three of Baron Mordo's old disciples, Kaecilius, Adria, and Demonicus burst through, intent on revenge against Dr. Strange for imprisoning them. Strange is attacked and is somewhat perplexed when Jane transforms to Valkyrie and fights back. The three magic-users don't prove to be much opposition but before Strange and Valkyrie can lock them down, everyone is rocked by an explosion and the entrance of a confident Grim Reaper.

Mephisto mentally contacts Reaper to tell him that due to a technicality the new Valkyrie has yet to actually fulfill her requirements to officially become a Valkyrie. With no one to see what he's doing, if Reaper either kills Valkyrie or brings him a hero's soul, in this case Strange's, then he, Grim Reaper, can become Valkyrie.

Grim Reaper is happy with that, so much so that he plans to do both.
