History

Just like its counterpart from the Prime Marvel Universe, the symbiote had been bonded Spider-Man before he rejected it and left it for dead at the Our Lady of Saints Church. After sensing Anne Weying's hatred for Spider-Man, it bonded to her, becoming the villain Venom.

As Venom

Sensing an impending threat, the Venom symbiote began spawning offspring - one of which bonded to the serial killer Cletus Kasady to become the monstrous Carnage. At some point, the Venom symbiote took on the appearance of body armor and Anne adopted the alias "Agent Venom". The Venom symbiote also impregnated Anne with some of its living abyss to spawn a human/symbiote hybrid, Anne giving birth to a son she named Dylan.

Dylan eventually fell under the sway of the dark god Knull, who had created the symbiotes, and became his apostle - seeking to conquer the Earth in the name of the Symbiote Hive. Using his powers, Dylan tore a piece of the Venom symbiote off and bonded to it, forcing it to reproduce in order to create a horde of symbiotes he used to overrun the world.

As Agent Venom, Anne was recruited into the Sym-Soldier Program - a supersoldier initiative - by President Eugene Thompson; and joined forces with Carnage - who learned to control his bloodlust, Spider-Man - who re-bonded to a symbiote, the psychotic mercenary Wade Wilson, and teenage rebel Andi Benton.

However, the war against Codex proved to be a losing battle that cost both President Thompson and Rex Strickland their lives, and saw many of the world's heroes and villains either slain or converted into Codex's army of symbiote-augments. As Codex conquered the Earth and began converting the populace into symbiote-augments linked to his hive-mind, Anne assumed field leadership of the remaining Sym-Soldiers. With Mister Fantastic serving as her team's chief science officer, Anne established a base in the old S.H.I.E.L.D. tunnels under the city of Manhattan and becoming a freedom-fighter.

Even without a host, the Venom symbiote is capable of freely extending its biomass into tentacles and tendrils, and usually manifests a fanged mouth and large white eyespots. When bonded to a host, it can shapeshift to mimic any type of clothing whatsoever, as well as blending Venom in with her surroundings, effectively rendering her invisible. The symbiote has augmented all of its host's physical abilities to superhuman levels equal to, and in some cases greater than, Spider-Man's.
