- —Venom Symbiote[src]
History
It can be presumed that the Symbiote had the same path as its Earth-616 counterpart. Where at some point, it bonded to Peter Parker on Battleworld. Sometime later, Peter would reject it, and it would ultimately bond with Eddie Brock, creating the creature known as Venom.
During a battle with Spider-Man, a portion of the symbiote managed to remove itself from Brock and rebond with Spider-Man. The black-suited Spider-Man became stronger and defeated Venom, though Venom managed to get away.
With its newfound ability to duplicate, the symbiote asserted dominion over Brock and began duplicating itself and infecting New York. With a symbiote outbreak growing, multiple heroes and villains found themselves becoming infected; among them being Wolverine, Black Cat, Electro, and the Vulture.
Spider-Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. fought back the infection. After Spider-Man defeated Vulture following his sabotage of the Tinkerer's device, Venom attacked the Helicarrier. When Spider-Man confronted Venom on the Helicarrier, he had merged with a vast number of its spawns and had become a massive, five-headed creature. the Venom-Hydra expressed that Eddie Brock was no longer in control, and that it planned to complete itself with Spider-Man's symbiote and use the Helicarrier to spread the symbiote throughout the world.
When Spider-Man tried calling out to Eddie, he, as Venom, emerged from the creature, pleading for help. Based on what Spider-Man chooses to do:
- If Spider-Man took the darker path, he tied a web-noose around Venom's throat and threw the other end into one of the Helicarrier's engines. The web-noose dragged Eddie into the engine and it exploded, killing Eddie.
- If Spider-Man chose instead to help Venom, Venom punched Spider-Man off the Helicarrier. Realising that he can't get rid of the symbiotes, he cast a line into one of the Helicarrier's engines and crawled along it into the engine, vowing to die 'like a man' to stop Venom.
In both cases, Eddie dies, and the Helicarrier descended towards the Hudson River, exploding as it reached the water's surface. The explosion destroys Venom entirely.[1]
Iterations and Offshoots[]
Venom spawns a number of offshoots, the majority of which he is in direct control over.
- Spider-Man's Symbiote - The first offshoot of the Venom Symbiote occurs during a fight between Spider-Man and Venom. An offshoot of the Symbiote leaves Venom and bonds with Spider-Man, recreating his black suit with new powers. Though Venom is not in control of Spider-Man, the Symbiote does negatively influence Spider-Man's thoughts.
- Electro's Symbiote - Electro tried to find his sister after S.H.I.E.L.D. began rounding up Manhattan's citizens in an attempt to contain the spread of the Venom Symbiote's infection. However, after he was shot by Black Widow, his sister passed the Symbiote she was carrying to him. After the symbiotes take full control of Manhattan, Electro establishes a nest to the west of Central Park and begins spawning symbiotes that replicate his electrical powers.
- Wolverine's first Symbiote - After clearing a path for S.H.I.E.L.D. to rescue people trapped inside a church, Wolverine is attacked by several symbiotes. The symbiotes merge with him.
- Wolverine's second Symbiote - Should Spider-Man choose to destroy the Tinkerer's device and take control of the symbiotes himself, S.H.I.E.L.D. bonds Wolverine to a modified Symbiote which he maintains full control over.
- Black Cat's first Symbiote - At some point following the defeat of Electro, Black Cat is infected by the Symbiote and attempts to kill both Spider-Man and Mary-Jane atop a building close to Fisk Tower.
- Black Cat's second Symbiote - Should Spider-Man choose to save Black Cat's life, he bonds her to an offshoot of his own Symbiote. Unlike the first Symbiote, Black Cat is in full control of the Symbiote.
- Vulture's Symbiote - At some point following the symbiotes' failed attack on Stark Tower, Vulture becomes infected by a Symbiote, which fully-manifests itself after the deployment of Tinkerer's device.
- Other offshoots - Venom manages to spread offshoots to many citizens of Manhattan, creating several different classes of symbiotes that carry distinct powers and appearances.
Attributes
Powers
In addition to this, Venom also has the following powers:
- Self-Replication: Venom can replicate the Symbiote and attach it to other people, thus 'infecting' them. He can either do this directly or through the creation of 'hives'. Venom's ability to replicate eventually results in it taking on a massive form comprised of replicas of itself.
- Personality alteration: While bonded to Spider-Man, the offshoot of Venom influences Spider-Man's personality, often resulting in uncharacteristically violent or selfish behaviour.
- Personality Subversion: Upon discovering the ability to replicate, Venom gains the power to subvert the personality of its host, including Eddie Brock, and also all of the people it infects.
- Parasitic Inheritance: As well as possessing powers copied from Spider-Man, Venom's offshoots can inherit the powers of those it infects, and it can also copy those powers among its other offshoots, resulting in lower-level symbiotes possessing powers similar to Vulture and Electro.
- Stealth: At first, Venom's offshoots were able to hide in their host bodies without manifesting themselves, only becoming hostile when Spider-Man attempted to use the Black Suit to detect them.
Weaknesses
- Intense Sound: The symbiote is extremely sensitive to high frequencies of sound and Sonic attacks, first shown when Peter Parker separated from the symbiote using a Church Bell.
- Intense Heat: The symbiote is also vulnerable to intense levels of heat.
