History

Doctor Doom's history is presumably similar to his Earth-616 counterpart's. When nuclear war and biological attacks devastated much of humanity,[1] Doctor Doom survived by traveling through time.[2] Doom spied on the Stalkers, a group that controlled what remained of Connecticut, but he discovered that they were killed by the Hulk who now went by the moniker of the Maestro. Apparently a setback for whatever he was planning, Doom decided to visit the hidden base of Maestro's former team, the Pantheon.[3]

When the Pantheon tried to ignore Doom, Doom simply teleported himself into their base. The Pantheon threatened him, but Doom made the team back down when he struck Hector with an optic blast. The Pantheon agreed to talk with Doom. Doom revealed that he wanted the Pantheon's help in defeating Maestro's goal of world conquest as it interfered with his option of living in the apocalyptic future. The Pantheon agreed to aid Doom. The Pantheon then tricked Maestro into getting on their jet and knocking him out with a powerful knockout gas provided by Doom.[2]

While Pantheon held Maestro prisoner, Doom carried out his true goal: the conquest of Dystopia. When Doom told the people of Dystopia that he was their new ruler, they dismissed him. Doom thought about killing people to make a point, but he decided that was too predictable. Doom then barged his way into Maestro's palace and told Maestro's Minister that he was now in charge. After Doom explained to the Minister that Maestro was the Pantheon's prisoner, the Minister expressed doubt that they could hold him. Doom stated that to the Minister that he might be right.[4]

Maestro eventually defeated the Pantheon and made his way back to Dystopia. When Maestro confronted Doom, it was revealed that the two had actually worked together to eliminate A.I.M. and the Pantheon, the two last organizations that could impede their plans to rule the world. However, Maestro didn't want to share power with Doom and tried poisoning him, but Doom took an antitoxin beforehand and engaged in a fight with Maestro. Maestro made sure Doom threw him into the old Alchemax building and used electromagnets he stored there to destroy Doom's armor. After battering Doom, Maestro was about to finish him off when he saw Doom's horribly scarred face and was taken aback. This allowed Doom to throw Maestro back and retrieve his mask, which allowed him to teleport to safety.[5]

Doom returned to Latveria badly injured from his fight with Maestro and bound to a wheelchair. Wanting revenge, Doom tried to form an alliance with Maestro's former friend Rick Jones, but Jones was too senile for Doom to even talk to.[6] Doom later teleported the Sub-Mariner, the Abomination, and the original Human Torch to Castle Doom to help him defeat Maestro.[7]

However, Blonsky and Namor went behind Doom's back and launched an attack on Maestro using a Giganto mobilized by Namor. Doom was eventually alerted to the pair's actions and was upset when he witnessed Namor's Giganto rampaging throughout Dystopia. Then an explosive left by Blonsky destroyed Doom's teleporter so he couldn't interfere. However, Doom was able to repair the teleporter with help from the Human Torch and teleported Namor back to Latveria. Namor and Doom then got into an argument, resulting in Namor knocking Doom to the floor.[8]

Doom and Namor eventually made up and tricked Blonsky and Maestro into teleporting into a prison cell in Castle Doom. Blonsky and Maestro escaped, and Doom confronted Maestro in a battlesuit after he defeated Namor. However, Blonsky hacked into Doom's computer system to teleport Maestro back to Dystopia and then to hack into the Human Torch's systems, causing his pyrokinesis to go out of control and kill everyone in Castle Doom, including Doom.[9]

Dr. Doom's mask was among the memorabilia that Rick Jones had recovered and preserved after the rise of the Maestro's power. The rebels used his time machine to travel to the past to convince the Hulk to help them defeat the Maestro. When the Rick Jones told the Hulk about a great war that had destroyed the old status quo, the Hulk asked if Dr. Doom was responsible.[10]
