History
The story of this version of Thor was told by Odin's eye.
According to the tale, this Thor existed before the current Thor was born, Vidar was son to Odin and brother to Vali.[1]
During the battle of the Ragnarök, Vidar witnessed the death of his father by the Fenris Wolf, decapitating him at his turn.[1]
Along Vidar, Hoder, Balder, Vili, Ve, Hoenir, Magni, and Modi, they were the only survivors to a prior Ragnarök.[1]
Together, they wandered on the post-Ragnarök Asgard. As Vidar found Odin's spear Gungnir, he denied the idea of rejecting it as Thor's son had did a few instant before with their father's hammer and claimed it as his own, the brothers and sons of Odin all grabbing it until they were merged and transformed into Odin.[2]Attributes
Powers
Vidar presumably possesses various superhuman physical attributes common to the Asgardians and to his current counterpart.
Abilities
Vidar was skilled in the use of the sword.[1]
Paraphernalia
Equipment
A horned helmet, a knife belt
Weapons
A few knives and an "invincible" sword.[1]
Notes
- In Norse myths, Vidar was the god of vengeance, and his role in Ragnarok is that he is supposed to kill Fenris the Wolf with his bare hands, after it had killed Odin: "He will press one foot on Fenrir's bottom jaw, and will take hold of his other jaw and tear the wolf apart. He is one of the gods that will rule the new world when it is created".[3]
Trivia
- Thor #293 states that in other tales, Vidar killed the Fenris Wolf with his bare hands, but given it was a family comic book, a decapitation was more appropriate.
