From the ONE ABOVE ALL sprang all Creation, and all things within were made and governed by His will... ...save the single spark of life that sprang from no creator, only from itself: the MOTHER OF HORRORS.

Eldest[source]

The Mother of Horrors is an entity that came from existence by herself, without any intervention from the One Above All, the creator of all reality and the Multiverse.[3] Resenting the One Above All for dominating reality, the Mother of Horrors claimed and hid the Earth from Him, and created two children to rule by Her side, her Eldest child and her son Udru, the latter who was created to directly challenge the One Above All. When the One Above All discovered the Earth and laid eyes on Udru, He became enraged and confronted Her. She then infected Him with Her corruption and He manifested for the first time as His dark counterpart, the One Below All, who ripped apart and disfigured Udru and chained the Mother of Horrors.[3][1] However, Mother was since discouraged to continue, and when Eldest finally came to free Her, possessing the Fractured Son's body, she ate Vinruviel instead, assimilating Her powers.[4]

History

Origin[]

From the existence of the One Above All sprang all of creation, however, one day, a being came into existence by itself without His intervention and knowledge, who called itself The Mother of Horrors. The Mother of Horrors resented the One Above All for dominating over all of existence, and decided that the planet Earth, to which She was bound to, would not know His rule, only Hers and that of Her children.[2]

She created Her oldest child, but also another being that She designed to challenge the One Above All, which She named Udru, meaning "Brighter than He".[2] The One Above All eventually confronted Her with a spear made of His own Light, splitting the Earth in half in order to see what was going on. She took this opening to infect Him with Her corruption, turning Him into the One Below All.[1] In a rage, He proceeded to burn Vinruviel's children, ripping apart and disfiguring Udru, then chaining the Mother of Horrors in the Requiem Plain, letting the corpses of Her children as a warning to anyone who tried to free Her. He let Her behind a door that could only be opened by the Green Flame.[3][5][2]

Freed Too Late[]

Eldest would spend the next eons trying to free Her, but to no avail. She briefly succeeded when one of the One Below All's children, Enkidu, came to face her. She managed to wear his skin and was about to free Vinruviel, though the One Below All appeared and annihilated them.[6] However, when the Green Door was shut, the One Below All was isolated from the rest of the Multiverse.[7] Later, a group of archaeologists found Enkidu's tomb, one of them being possessed by Eldest, returning to life and rekindling her quest to free mother Vinruviel, as a new Fractured Son was on the loose.[3]

She finally managed to possess him and open Vinruviel's door. However, She was unresponding, discouraged by the torture the One Below All inflicted upon Her back then and the centuries of waiting. In a fit of rage, Eldest devoured her mother's flesh, assimilating Her powers and becoming the Infernal Hulk.[4]

Attributes

Powers

Invisibility to the One Above All: The Mother of Horrors, at the time of Her creation, was invisible to the One Above All's omniscience, having defiled the Earth for a long time until He personally came to witness it.[3]

Immortality: Mother Vinruviel is undying, as She's the embodiment of corruption itself, to the point even the One Below All couldn't kill her.[8]

Corruption: She can corrupt other beings, as She did with the Elder Gods and the One Above All Himself.[2][5]

Spawn Creation: Mother Vinruviel can seemingly reproduce asexually or through matter manipulation, as She made numerous spawns through the ages.[2][5]

Weaknesses

The One Below All/The Green Flame: Despite Her invisibility to the One Above All and having created His other half when She corrupted Him, She's particularly vulnerable to it and the Green Flame, as He easily defeated and tortured Her.[5] He would prevent Her from being free anytime Eldest came close to it.[9]

Notes

  • Considering the remarks of The Remembrances of Eldest in Incredible Hulk (Vol. 6) #29, which states that to consume Her would allow Her to control one's flesh (in this instance, the One Below All), it's possible She retains control of Eldest as the Infernal Hulk.
