You killed the people who gave me meaning, Creel. Hank Pym taught me that there are choices beyond programming! Janet Van Dyne, that there was beauty in the smallest of people! Pietro Maximoff, that if one's father is evil, it does not mean the child must be! Clint Barton, that there is no such thing as a powerless man! And Wanda, my dear Wanda... taught me that even an android can love!

Vision[source]

History

The early life and history of the Vision mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart.

Mutation of Humanity[]

When the entire human population began to mutate overnight, Vision was one of many heroes who attempted to help mankind through the chaos that erupted.[1]

The mutation was accompanied by a global food shortage, and while defending a food silo from Titania, the Avengers put her in a coma. Vengeful, her lover the Absorbing Man absorbed Pym's creation Ultron, granting him Ultron's massive intellect and computing power in addition to his own nearly limitless powers.[2]

To avenge Titania, the Absorbing Man launched an attack on Washington D.C. The Avengers confronted him, but were killed one by one, as the Absorbing Man used Ultron's intelligence to formulate the perfect response to their attacks. Vision managed to infect him with a virus, and when he shifted into stone to slow its spread, Vision smashed him into pieces, finally stopping him, though at the cost of the lives of his friends and wife.[2]

The fragments of the Absorbing Man were turned over to former X-Man Sunfire, now the Emperor of Japan, who oversaw their distribution to various heroes, in order to ensure that the Absorbing Man was never reassembled.[2] Vision partnered with his old Avengers teammate Iron Man, who created the Iron Avengers, robot duplicates of the deceased Avengers imbued with the personalities of the originals. Vision became the Iron Avengers' leader.[3]

Earth X[]

To Vision's dismay, Stark entered into an alliance with Norman Osborn, formerly the supervillain Green Goblin. As Osborn seized control of the country as the new President, Stark agreed to use the Iron Avengers to fight the Hydra parasites. Vision disagreed with Stark's decision, but continued to loyally lead the Iron Avengers.[3][4] However, he attempted to convince Tony that the world needed him to do more than be Osborn's lackey.[5]

When the Skull invaded New York City with his army of mind-controlled superhumans, the Iron Avengers were destroyed and Osborn was killed.[6] While Tony refused to participate in Captain America's attempt to stop the Skull, Vision continued to urge his friend to do something.[7] Captain America succeeded in defeating the Skull, only for the Final Host of Celestials to suddenly arrive, having come to purge the Earth of all life. Finally stirred to action, Tony gave Vision the schematics for the Iron Avengers, asking him to rebuild them if he could, before sacrificing himself in an attempt to stop the Celestials.[7]

The Celestials were eventually defeated by Galactus, who removed the Celestial embryo within Earth's core, though at the cost of Earth suffering massive environmental damage due to the resulting reduction of the planet's mass.[8]

Universe X[]

Vision brought the schematics of the Iron Avengers to King Britain who rebuilt them. Vision entered into his service, and helped defend Buckingham Palace from the Tong of Creel, who attacked the castle to retrieve King Britain's piece of the Absorbing Man, hoping to reassemble the monster.[9]

The Tong was eventually successful, unleashing the resurrected Creel upon New York City. Vision was called upon to help defeat the villain. Vision tricked him into absorbing Vision's own phasing properties, causing him to fall out of phase with the rest of the world, unable to touch anything. While he had been stopped, all of New York had also been phased, and Vision had unknowingly disrupted both Kree hero Mar-Vell's plan to destroy Death, and Loki's plan to save the planet.[10]

Despite his distrust for Loki, and his hatred of Creel, Vision agreed to restore Creel's ability to touch. Loki managed to convince the villain to transform into vibranium, and allow Iron Maiden to distribute his mass throughout Earth's core to save the planet. Creel agreed in order to save his girlfriend, Titania.[10]
