Von Boehnk was a man that had met with John Grimlan fifty years before his death. At that time, Grimlan was already an old man (secretly, Grimlan had signed over his body and soul to Malik Tous in exchange for wealth and longevity).

As the Professor Conrad, an acquaintance of Grimlan made discreet inquiries about him, he met with Von Boehnk, who told him of the apparent age of Grimlan at the time of their meeting.[1]

Von Boehnk was mentioned by Robert E. Howard in the story "Dig Me No Grave" (First published in Weird Tales, February 1937), later adapted in Journey Into Mystery Vol 2 #1 (October, 1972) by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane.
