History

Overview[]

Voyager 2 is a space probe launched by N.A.S.A. in 1977, to study the outer planets of the Solar System. Part of the Voyager program, it was launched 16 days before its twin, Voyager 1, on a trajectory that took longer to reach Jupiter and Saturn but enabled further encounters with Uranus and Neptune.

The astrophysicist Carl Sagan (Earth-616) assembled the first physical messages sent into space: the Pioneer plaque and the Voyager 2 Golden Record, universal messages that could potentially be understood by any extraterrestrial intelligence that might find.[1]

After 40 years since its launch, The Voyager 2 is still in operation and transmits data from the outer regions of the Solar System.

Events[]

In the alternate future of Earth-81049 a couple of Moensiens find the centuries old remains of the Voyager space probe from the planet Earth as it was about to be pulled into a black hole. Xanth was determined to collect it and learn who its creators were, despite Shareen's protests that it was too dangerous. Instead of recovering the probe, the couple's ship was pulled into the black hole and released into Reality-Earth-616.[1]

Notes

Although the NASA's Voyager programme had only 2 probes sent into space, a fictional Voyager 6 probe appeared, in a major role, in the movie Star Trek: The Motion Picture. As so, it appears in the Marvel's movie adaptation first published in [2].
