Walter Langkowski's Arctic Lab was a a lab unit ear the Arctic Circle and funded by the Canadian government where Walter Langkowski was performing gamma-ray research. Inspired by the events that transformed Bruce Banner into the Hulk, Langkowski performed an experiement on himself at the lab that resulted in his transformation into Sasquatch.
