History
Origins[]
Wanda Maximoff was born in the cursed Transian mountains and marked at birth by the sinister Elder God Chthon, who sensed her potential to channel phenomenal arcane energy. This secret influence shattered the previous limits of Wanda's abilities and truly unleashed her reality-altering chaos magic. Transia was very poor when Wanda and her brother Pietro were growing up, and their father could not find. One day, he stole bread to feed the children but was chased by an angry mob. Wanda reacted with her powers activating for the first time, which turn half of the people to stone. Pietro helped her run away that same day, and the twins used their talents to survive on their own. As they grew into adults, they eventually went separate ways. Wanda lived in Europe before becoming an apprentice to the legendary Agatha Harkness.[1]
Apprentice to Agatha[]
Wanda meets Magik
Wanda moved to the Abbey, hidden inside a Pocket Dimension in Salem (Massachusetts), to live with Agatha and her partner Sara the Caretaker. When Sara's sister Lilith was brought back to life by Hydra, the Prophecy of the Midnight Suns heralded the return of Chthon.[1] Sara decided to assemble the new Midnight Suns against this threat, beginning with Wanda who felt the pressure of replacing Hunter as the one to stand against Lilith. Agatha directed Wanda to the Magik of the X-Men and tasked Wanda with recruiting her, the two quickly became close friends.[2] The two also bonded with the other Suns — Nico Minoru, Robbie Reyes, and Blade.[3]

As the team was settling in and began training for the fight to come, Wanda was feeling the pressure of living up to what was expected of her and was eager to push the limits of her magic and explore the Abbey grounds. However, several areas of the Abbey grounds have been sealed by Caretaker using Words of Power accessible only to the descendants of the Blood and protected by the Moon Seals. Wanda's experiments with those proved disastrous, as one of the Moon Seals explored and vaporized Agatha without a trace. Though Wanda was not directly at fault, Caretaker still resented her and sent Wanda away to apprentice under Doctor Strange. Wanda became increasingly convinced that others have been right to fear her all along and that succumbing to her dark heritage was all but inevitable.[1]
Apprentice to Doctor Strange[]
Wanda at the Sanctum
Strange and Iron Man just returned to the Sanctum after meeting with Johnny Blaze when it has been attacked by Hydra forces who got inside through a portal. Joined by Captain Marvel, the heroes dealt with the minions, and Strange directed Scarlet Witch to activate the Wards of Protection. Wanda attempted to raise the protective wards, but an unknown force was blocking her efforts. Before they could react, another portal opened to reveal Lilith herself. Wanda managed to catch Lilith off guard with a blast of chaos magic, creating an opportunity for Strange to break free from his magical restraints and cast a banishment spell that hurled Lilith back through the portal.[1]

Doctor Strange confirmed that the ancient prophecy was now unfolding, and that Lilith was growing stronger as the Midnight Sun approached, opening a portal to the Abbey that Wanda recognized and refused to enter. Strange let her to remain at the Sanctum to maintain the protective Wards while he, Captain Marvel, and Iron Man ventured to the Abbey, where Strange and Sara performed a ritual that resurrected the Hunter. Before he could return, the protecting wards have failed, and the Sanctum was engulfed by the shell created from the Venom symbiote. Lilith returned and approached Wanda, taking and corrupting her.[1]
Fallen Scarlet Witch[]
Fallen Scarlet Witch
All five Midnight Suns, including Hunter, shared the same dream of Scarlet Witch appearing and calling them by name. This prompted them to attempt a rescue against Caretaker's wishes, using a spell they had found in one of Caretaker's books that could potentially track Wanda. Nico told everyone to maintain concentration on the spell as she began chanting, but a disruption created a vortex that sucked Hunter, Nico, and Magik to Wanda's location - the lab of Bruce Banner who likewise has been corrupted by Lilith. A large glass tube revealed Wanda inside, corrupted by Lilith into one of the Fallen. Hunter claimed that death offered the only chance for release, as Fallen Scarlet Witch burst from the tube and attacked. Magik recognized their need to escape and opened a portal. Nico was still attempting to reason with Wanda but Hunter and Magik grabbed her and dove through the portal. They tumbled out back at the Abbey where the portal was forcibly reopened by Wanda who began pushing herself through while Magik struggled to close it. Caretaker appeared and managed to drive Wanda back, sealing the portal.[1]
Fallen Scarlet Witch tried to break through the portal.
Nico later learned from The Book of Thoth that had cured the first documented case of Lilin corruption. Since corruption could not be destroyed but merely transferred, whoever removed it from Wanda would need to absorb it themselves, leaving Hunter as the only viable candidate. When Hunter and Charlie returned to Banner's lab, they found his Gamma Accelerator guarded by Fallen Scarlet Witch. She taunted Hunter by suggesting their friends had abandoned them and sent them on this suicide mission, but then Magik emerged through a portal and broke her spell. During the battle against the Fallen Scarlet Witch, Hunter absorbed her darkness before reciting the incantation from The Book of Thoth. A vision of red eyes in darkness flickered through their mind while Fallen Scarlet Witch uttered "Chthon" and ascended into the air amid a burst of energy pouring from her body.[1]
Reunions[]
The heroes returned to the Abbey through a portal, followed by the Gamma Accelerator levitated by Scarlet Witch, now free from Lilith's corruption, and veryone celebrated her return. After Wanda went to sleep, Nico and Magik conveyed their gratitude to Hunter, while Tony appeared more excited about having outmaneuvered Banner and recovered the Gamma Accelerator. Caretaker admitted to Hunter that she was wrong in doubting Wanda's potential for salvation.[1]
Wanda returns to the Abbey.
Some time later, Wanda burst into Hunter's room, having overheard their conversation with the ghost of Agatha. That night, Wanda awaited at Agatha's shrine, demanding answers. Hunter said that Agatha was there; Wanda was unable to see her but did hear her voice. Agatha absolved Wanda of responsibility for her death, explaining that she herself had been at fault for pushing Wanda excessively. Agatha explained that while she wished to assist in their battle against Lilith, her tenuous connection to their world severely limited her power; however she knew of a ritual that could bind her to this place. It required a memento from Caretaker's quarters, but Agatha cautioned them against alerting Sara to their plan.[1]
After retrieving the memento, Wanda and Hunter learned that it was needed for the Gray Seneschal binding ritual from the Libris Inlicitus — a dangerous spell that left the spirit vulnerable for destruction or possession. If successful though, it would enable everyone at the Abbey to perceive Agatha, who emphasizing the importance of concealing their plans from Sara due to her knowledge of the ritual's considerable risks and slim chances of success.[1]
Wanda was unable to face Caretaker.
When the Moon Phase was right, Wanda summoned Hunter, the Midnight Suns, Doctor Strange and Logan. The ritual commenced with the group focusing their collective strength, gradually enabling them to perceive Agatha, when Caretaker unexpectedly arrived, having tracked the missing keepsake through magic. Upon recognizing the Gray Seneschal ritual, she angrily rushed forward, breaking the protective boundary and triggering a flash of red energy around Agatha, who was possessed by Mephisto. He offered to release Agatha in exchange for Illyana, but Magik cast a spell that expelled Mephisto from Agatha's spirit and banished him, restoring Agatha to visibility for all present.[1]
The Witch on Wundagore Mountain[]
Wanda subdues Fallen Hulk.
As the team lamented Lilith's imminent consumption of Transia with demonic energy. Captain America brought up the Godkiller, but there was the seemingly insurmountable challenge of deploying it against Lilith with Hulk serving as her guardian. Agatha then appeared, declaring that the most formidable entity on Earth wasn't Hulk but Wanda, prompting Hunter to accompany her to the Temple of Chthon in Transia. Ready to unleash her full potential, Scarlet Witch flew to confront Hulk and hurled him into the Temple before suspending him mid-air with magic. Lilith emerged and freed Hulk while attempting to corrupt Wanda again, she feigned susceptibility before blasting Lilith back into the Temple and sealing her within, allowing them to focus on Hulk. Hunter absorbed Hulk's darkness and recited the incantation from The Book of Thoth, successfully transforming Hulk back into Banner and freeing him from Lilith's influence.[1]
Wanda joined the others for a final confrontation with Lilith, who revealed that her intention was not to free Chthon but to destroy him. The Godkiller was used to stab Darkhold, banishing Chthon once more, though Lilith and Hunter were both trapped inside the book itself. In the aftermath, Wanda, Agatha, Strange, and Caretaker immersed themselves in various mystical tomes and ancient documents, expressing frustration as they discovered little information regarding events following the Prophecy of the Midnight Sun's fulfillment.[1]Attributes
