—Lore[source]We necromancers are notoriously hard to keep down, especially here. I rule the Land of the Dead, Hex Witch. I curate its hells. None may pass above...
Lore is the nexus being of a reality where necromancy was common and a dark counterpart of Wanda Maximoff.[2][1] In her hunt for nexus beings, Lore attacked Earth-616's Scarlet Witch but was slain by her.[4] In death, Lore found a new calling in ruling the Land of the Dead.[1]
History
Hailing from a dark, necromantic reality, Lore was the embodiment of her world’s corruption as its nexus being. In time, she consumed the total mystical and existential energies of her home reality, an act that left it functionally destroyed and uninhabitable. Unable to manifest independently beyond her own universe, Lore turned to dimensional conquest, invading other realities by possessing their nexus beings. Through this process, she fed upon both the nexus host and their reality itself, collapsing entire universes in the process and killing the possessed nexus beings.[2]
Wanda meeting Lore
Disguised as a monstrous entity, Lore later assaulted the reality of Amazar by possessing its nexus being, the Witch-Queen Eleyne. This incursion and the resulting destabilization of the reality were sensed by the Scarlet Witch of Earth-616, herself a nexus being and Lore’s intended next victim. Lore manipulated Master Pandemonium and manifested demonic versions of the Avengers to weaken Wanda before directly attacking her spiritually. Wanda countered by using her hex powers to forcibly anchor Lore into physical form. During their confrontation, Lore drew upon the souls and residual power of the nexus beings she had already destroyed, but this proved disastrous when the vengeful spirits turned against her. Wanda ultimately struck the killing blow, freeing the trapped souls and ending Lore’s multiversal threat.[4]
In the Witches' Underworld
Attributes
Powers
Lore has vast magical powers, and was capable of traveling between dimensions, possessing people's minds and bodies, raising and controlling the dead, and firing mystic energy blasts. She could drain energy from entire planets to replenish her reserves.[5][3]
The Scarlet Witch vs. Lore
- Witchcraft: Lore is a human of magical birthright, which means she possesses the ability to manipulate magic since the very beginning.[2][3]
- Possession: Lore has demonstrated the ability to possess others.[2]
- Energy Absorption: Lore was capable to absorb and channel energy.[2]
- Energy Projection: Lore was capable to release and project powerful energy blasts of various shapes and/or intensities and annihilate her targets.[2][3]
- Flight: Lore has also proven to be able to fly at will.[2][3]
- Necromancy: Lore can communicate with the deceased and raise them.[2]
- Interdimensional Teleportation: She was able to travel interdimensionally.[2][3]
- Summoning: Lore can call upon demons to attack her enemies.[1]
- Illusions: Lore can create illusions.[1]
Notes
- The idea that multiple nexus beings cannot exist in the same reality is only applied in Scarlet Witch (and is circumvented in Scarlet Witch #4). However, this is ignored elsewhere, especially in the many, many cases of Kang, another nexus being,[6] interacting with Wanda Maximoff and Earth-616. Later, Lore is seen existing in Earth-616 despite Wanda still being alive, so this rule seems to have been abandoned.[3]
Trivia
- Lore's appearance in Scarlet Witch (Vol. 4) #3 seems to be inspired by the MCU's Scarlet Witch, with the paler skin, redder hair, and an outfit that resembles Wanda's in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
