History
This War Machine Armor was built by Tony Stark for Jim Rhodes following both of them being returned from the dead. Rhodey used it when Iron Man brought him along to confront Sunset Bain for the construction of the Manticore. Due to the accumulated trauma he suffered while wearing an armor, Rhodey panicked and ejected from the suit. He then formally discarded his use of armor in favor of piloting the Manticore.[1]
Despite Rhodey's reluctance to suit up again, Tony rigged the armor to hone in on the Manticore in case of emergency.[2] Rhodey made use of this function in a battle against Ultron Pym, seeing himself forced to suit up when Iron Man had to retreat from the fight after his health was compromised due to being molecularly merged to his own armor.[3] Rhodey used the suit to fight both Ultron and his army of cyborgs,[4] though he later went back to using the War Machine Armor Model 8.[5]
