History
Origins[]
Warren Worthington III was a mutant with large avian wings. As a young man, he attended Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and was one of the founding members of the X-Men.[4][5]
The Cure[]
After leaving the X-Men, Angel desperately wanted to be rid of his mutation, and came into contact with a geneticist named Gottfried Adler, who was researching a mutant cure. Angel agreed to sponsor his research, sending him to Muir Island. Unbeknownst to Angel, Adler had in fact been murdered and replaced by Mystique, a shapeshifting servant of Apocalypse. Rather than cure him of his mutation, "Adler's" machine allowed Apocalypse to brainwash and enslave him, turning him into Death, one of his Four Horsemen. He was freed of Apocalypse's conditioning when X-Man Rogue touched him and sapped the evil that lay within him.[6]
Search for Apocalypse[]
Growing increasingly obsessive with revenge against Apocalypse, Archangel hired a team of scientists and archeologists to uncover every bit of evidence about the ancient being. Among these scientists was Apocalypse himself in disguise who provided Archangel with an ancient document telling, which stated that Apocalypse had a weak point at the back of his neck.
Archangel then tracked Apocalypse down to Liberty Island, but stood no chance in the ensuing battle. He was rescued by the X-Men who brought him back to the X-Mansion. There he convinced Rogue to aid him. They traveled with the X-Men to the sentient spacecraft, Ship, where Apocalypse revealed that he had set him up. Archangel and the X-Men barely survived the ensuing battle, but Beast managed to program the Ship to launch Apocalypse deep into outer space. Enraged at being robbed of his revenge, Archangel left the X-Men again.[3]
When the mutant thief known as Psylocke broke into Worthington Castle to steal some rare artifacts and paintings, Archangel discovered her and followed the thief back to a storage house where he confronted her. She was then attacked and kidnapped by Sabretooth and Magneto. Archangel joined forces with the X-Men to rescue her and the other telepaths who had been kidnapped by Apocalypse.[7]
Archangel later moved to Genosha and was present at the Gala when a Tri-Sentinel Master Mold attacked.[8] Six months after the disappearance of the active X-Men roster, Archangel was listed as MISSING PRESUMED DEAD on Forge's roster of X-Men.[9]Attributes

Notes
- Archangel was voiced by Stephen Ouimette in X-Men: The Animated Series.
- Developed for television by Larry Houston and Frank Squillace.
- In this version, he loses the "death" status to become Archangel thanks to Rogue, who saps the evil that lay within him.[2]
- Archangel appears to develop an attraction towards Psylocke similar to his comic book counterpart, but this is not further explored in the series.[7]
Trivia
- There are many inconsistencies regarding Angel's membership in the X-Men. In his first appearances, Angel was not depicted as having been a member of the X-Men, and was not recognized by any of the other X-Men. Starting with "Sanctuary - Part I" he began appearing in flashbacks as one of the founding X-Men, but continued to not be acknowledged as a former member in his full-fledged appearances. As of "To Me, My X-Men" he was confirmed to have been a part of the original team.
- According to Shard, Archangel was destined to one day join (or rejoin) the X-Men.[10] But since he's presumed dead during the Genosha massacre, this may not come to pass.
