History

Wayopex is an alien empath, member of the Mourners. As an empath, he meditates and communicates with the zama (or immortal souls) of people recently deceased that the Mourners are honoring through a funeral. Contact is feasible in a given time-frame after the being's death, before the zama passes on to the weavern (or real of the afterdeath). Wayopex is reputed against the Mourners as an excellent empath, having never failed in their ceremonies.[1]

Wayopex attended Eon's funeral on Earth,[2] then performed a ceremony for the billions or trillions of members of the Kree Empire who had died in the Kree-Shi'ar War due to the Kree Nega-Bomb. During that funeral, however, Wayopex publicly screamed, claiming that the zama could not be contacted because they had been waylaid. This was controversial among the Mourners, some believing that Wayopex had not been up to scratch due to the unprecedented number of zama. Mourner leader Fath decided to talk to Wayopex and see what had happened, but he also asked a friend of the Mourners, Earth-born superhero Quasar, to investigate.[1] Quasar's allies soon returned to tell the Mourners that indeed a creature had fed on those souls, preventing them from reaching their rightful resting place, but Quasar had released them.[3]
