Synopsis for 1st story
The Werewolf by Night scales the walls of a castle as he infiltrates the lair of Doktor Nekromantik. He encounters and quickly tears apart one of the doctor’s creations, a Shadowform. Elsa Bloodstone sits in a private jet owned by vampires. The creatures moving towards her, she removes her weapons from her coat and dispatches the predators. Donning a parachute, Elsa blasts a hole in the cabin and leaps out into the night, falling towards the castle below. They each fell more evil creatures while making their way further through the halls, intent on rescuing a village girl kidnapped for experimentation, before nearly running into each other. United in their goals, the former lovers catch up briefly as they journey toward their objective. Tracking their query behind a door, the pair burst in to discover the Doktor and his Shadowforms gathered, with the girl strung up in the air. The villain tells them they are too late, and that the girl is already dead, before she lets out a scream and the next chapter of his foul play unfolds. Tentacles reach out and wrap the heroes as Nekromantik tells them that his work allows him to channel realms beyond through the dead, and Khabarian, King of the Suffering Wastes introduces himself, inhabiting the girl’s corpse. Desiring to consume the world, the king has promised the doctor secret knowledge, and the doctor exits to retrieve a ceremonial knife in hopes of offering the ensnared heroes as vessels for other beings. Elsa and Jack attempt to trick Khabarian into letting them go, convincing him that Nekromantik had purposefully given him a weaker body and conspired against him. When Nekromantik returns, he is grasped by the king who demands to know why he provided an unworthy form. Nekromantik reveals his intent on taking revenge against Khabarian, his own mother a sorceress betrayed and killed by the otherworldly monster. His speech is interrupted by a sharpened tendril busting out of his chest, King Khabarian killing him and commanding his creations to attack Elsa and Jack. They fight back and retreat, discovering explosives rigged throughout the castle by the doctor to destroy Khabarian. Leaping through a glass window, Elsa turns back and blasts the explosives with her bloodgem, detonating more throughout the castle as they plummet to the ground below. Regaining consciousness the following morning, the two move toward a rekindling of romance until Elsa sees Jack’s beard in his human form, and they go their separate ways.
