Synopsis for 1st story

In more than one desperate attempt to prevent the rise of Ultron, a sentient A.I. made by Hank Pym, Wolverine travelled through time repeatedly to erase a future where Ultron had decimated the planet and humanity. While he succeeded, his actions caused time itself to quake. These ripples spread through countless realities in the infinite Multiverse, affecting everyone and everything that ever was, is, or will be.

On one world, as a result of the time quakes, Janet van Dyne dies suddenly in front of her husband Hank Pym, while the latter is discussing the idea of Ultron with her. Thirty years later, on a post-apocalyptic Earth, Hank Pym has reached Kola, Russia. In his post-mortem letter to Janet, he recounts the events that led to the world's destruction.

It is revealed that Hank originally had simple intentions behind Ultron's creation-- he wanted to make a machine capable of human thought. But following Janet's death, Hank made Ultron much earlier than originally intended, and into something deadlier and more powerful, wanting it to replace the Avengers and put the world in safer hands.

Ultron eventually went rogue, and killed the Avengers, before starting his month-lomg eradication of humankind. As the world burned, pockets of resistance, including several heroes, attempted to defeat the A.I. but were all unsuccessful, as Ultron killed everyone on the planet, leaving Hank to suffer alone. As he wandered the Earth, he saw the many forms Ultron would take and evolve into over the years, destroying everything humanity built. Despite this, Hank continued to fight on and resist, finding solace in the resilience of his spirit.

Now, Hank has finally reached his destination-- the site where the Russians spent decades digging into the centre of the Earth to see how far they could go. With Ultron now built into the very fiber of the planet, it's the perfect safe haven for its central core.

Suddenly, a giant coil-like Ultron being bursts out of the ground and attacks him. Hank defeats it quickly, but it breaks down into a mass of smaller Ultron Drones, which start to swarm him before a giant metal hand reaches out and evnvelops him, pulling him down the tunnel.

Hank finds himself face to face with a giant Ultron Drone, who reveals that Hank has been here before, but will once more be undone and left elsewhere on the Earth without any memories of this encounter. As it incapacitates its creator, the giant Ultron Drone identifies itself as Ultron-1320, the result of over a thousand generations of evolution, and that every time Hank comes to fight, it grows stronger.

Hank wakes up on a medical bed, and the Ultron Drones surrounding him tell him that they have broken him countless times before, and will continue to do so, each time rebuilding him with a fraction of what makes him human behind. Hank is then strapped to another bed, where Ultron tells him that once his soul is fully torn down, he will be made into what the A.I. has always wanted him to be. To Hank's horror, he watches as the Ultron Drones cut away his suit, revealing that his body has been transformed to that of an Ultron Drone himself. Ultron reveals that Hank will be Ultron-1321, evolved from flesh to machine, and its greatest creation.

As Hank screams, the final part of his letter, which has been buried on the surface high above, declares that he will always love Janet-- until the day he dies, and into the hereafter.

Solicit Synopsis

• In Age of Ultron, a time-travelling Wolverine killed Hank Pym before he could create the world-conquering Ultron.

• What would the Marvel Universe look like if another founding Avenger had been killed instead?!

• A world without the Wasp brings a world where Hank Pym created an Ultron even more heinous than the one we know!!
