Synopsis

In the 1860s, Xu Xialing escapes to America, seeking a new beginning, but instead falls prey to a sinister plot orchestrated by the Hood, who uses fear and violence to vilify Chinese immigrants and consolidate his power. By 1872, her brother, Shang-Chi, is on a relentless quest to find her, accompanied by Kate Bishop, who seeks vengeance against the Hood for the murder of her family.

Their journey leads them to a ghostly, decimated township where they encounter a young boy, Kwai Jun-Fan. He reveals that the Hood's forces attacked the settlement and departed on a train. Determined, Shang-Chi, Bishop, and Jun-Fan pursue the train, boarding it in a daring move. Onboard, they uncover the Hood's horrifying scheme: the missing immigrants have been brainwashed by his enforcer, Sonny Burch, and turned into his loyal soldiers.

As the situation turns dire, the enigmatic Watcher intervenes subtly, ensuring Jun-Fan’s survival. Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and Bishop are captured and brought before the Hood—shockingly revealed to be a corrupted Xu Xialing. Consumed by power, she had killed the original Hood and claimed his dark abilities for herself. Burch, eager to maintain his dominance, confesses to killing Bishop’s parents and attempts to brainwash her. However, Jun-Fan, inspired by the Watcher’s guidance, rings a bell, breaking the spell on the brainwashed prisoners. This allows Bishop to confront and incapacitate Burch. Torn between loyalty and justice, Shang-Chi refuses to either fight or join Xialing, leaving Bishop to make the agonising choice. She kills Xialing, ending the Hood’s reign of terror but leaving Shang-Chi heartbroken. As peace returns to the freed immigrants, Shang-Chi and Bishop watch over Jun-Fan, who vows to lead his people to safety. The duo rides off into the sunset, haunted but resolute.

In the aftermath, the Watcher faces retribution from his fellow Watchers for interfering with mortal affairs. As punishment, fragments of their observatory scatter across the multiverse, setting the stage for new cosmic ripples in the fabric of reality.
