Synopsis for 1st story
When the Green Goblin threw Gwen Stacy off the Brooklyn Bridge, Peter Parker saves her by jumping after her and catching her. However, as Spider-Man fires a web-line to swing them both to safety, the Goblin cuts the line, causing the web-slinger to break his neck on a bridge pillar before his body cushions Gwen's fall when they hit the water. Upon waking in the river, a confused Gwen swims over to the prone Spider-Man, but discovers to her dismay that he is dead. Removing Spider-Man's mask, Gwen is devastated to learn that the dead hero is Peter. As the gloating Green Goblin flies off, Gwen protects Peter's identity by discarding his costume in the river and claiming that the Goblin took them both hostage at random.
Following Peter's funeral, Gwen subsequently dons a modified version of Spider-Man's spare costume and vows revenge against the Goblin. She works together with Harry Osborn to trap the villain, but refuses to kill him as she realizes doing so would not be what Peter wanted. However, Harry does choose to shot Peter's killer, but is horrified when he discovers the now-dead Goblin was his father. Blaming Gwen for Norman's death, Harry becomes the new Green Goblin, while a guilt-ridden Gwen returns home, where Mary Jane Watson comforts her. Later, Gwen visits Peter's grave and promises that she'll resolve her mistakes and stop Harry, who is now terrorizing the city. Despite having no powers, Gwen dons her spider-suit and swings into action as the new Spider-Woman.
