Strange Tales #77

Taboo, at the end of his story in Strange Tales #75 is blown into individual pieces of mud that rain down from orbit onto Earth. Each piece can move by itself and they gather in central park where they reform into Taboo. Taboo is angered that the humans attempted to destroy him and goes on a rampage. He states that his people are great warriors, but when a spaceship of theirs arrives, they deny to the humans that this is the case. They tell Taboo that he is "sick" and they take him with them when they depart the planet.

Synopsis for "The Strange Magic of Master Khan!"

Reprint of the 4th story from
Strange Tales #77

A captain steals the ship of a practitioner of black magic by drugging the crew and replacing them with his own men while locking Master Khan in the hold. After they are on the high seas, the thief looks for Master Khan in the hold, but he has disappeared. The astonished crew point to Master Khan walking on the waves towards them. He casts spells to make the sea rise against them, the ship sail underwater, and finally places the evil men on a ship-in-a-bottle.

Aliens meet a hermit in the swamp when their spacecraft becomes stuck and offer him a chest full of what they value most in return for his aid in freeing the ship. He agrees, and when they take off, they tell him that they will return within his lifetime with the invasion force. The hermit tells a reporter that is why he always stares at the sky, waiting for their return, and since he felt so bad for betraying humanity, he has never opened the chest. The excited reporter tells the hermit that he made no such oath and would like to open the chest. The hermit agrees, but there is nothing but air in the chest. The reporter leaves, feeling that the hermit is just pulling his leg, but the hermit realizes the space faring creatures did leave what is most valuable in a space ship, air.

Tales to Astonish #7

A man attempts to buy a house from a real estate agent but is warned that the house is haunted. Not believing him the man stays the night but is indeed visited by spirits who don't harm but still frighten him into not buying the house. After returning to the estate agent to buy a new house, the estate agent returns to the haunted house, revealing himself to be a ghost who doesn't want the house sold because he and the other ghosts need a place to stay.
