Widow Symbiote[src]

History

A symbiote spawned by the Venom symbiote when they were attempting to rescue an Alchemax employee abducted by a man called No One, who had a grudge against the corporation for the death of his son. In the wake of No One's warehouse burning down, Natasha Romanoff, who was conducting her own investigation into the group to which No One belonged, encountered the newly-spawned symbiote amidst the wreckage and bonded to it.[4]

The symbiote assisted Black Widow in infiltrating an Alchemax facility, but while fighting the security forces the symbiote was unable to work with its host, forcing them to retreat. Back to a safehouse, Widow told her symbiote that they needed to work properly together if they were to uncover Alchemax's dark secrets. To fix this issue, the two went into their mindscape where they simulated her training back when Black Widow was in the Red Room. However, this training proved to be a bit too much for the symbiote, and so Natasha instead recalled her training with her friends Spider-Woman, Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. The symbiote in its humanoid form, spared with each of them, completing its training, and once finished decided to name itself Sliver. Back to the real world, the symbiote and Black Widow's bond grew stronger, and deemed themselves ready to attack Alchemax again. They managed to take down the guards and a Symbiotech, before going to a laboratory where they found a sample of a serum designed to kill symbiotes, and planned to give to someone trusted.[1]

During the Zombiote outbreak, Widow and Misery lured as many Zombiotes as possible back to the Alchemax Tower. There Natasha separated from Sliver for the symbiote to keep the Zombiotes busy while she activated the fire sprinkler system which was now filled with Misery's Anti-Venom. However, Sliver became corrupted by the Zombiote plague and fought its former host. Natasha attempted to reason with her symbiote, only for Sliver to seemingly die to Anti-Venom alongside the Zombiotes. This left Natasha heartbroken and after the situation stabilized she left, unaware that Sliver had barely managed to survive.[5]

Attributes

Powers

Memory Absorption: The symbiote is capable of absorbing the memories of others by eating their brains, allowing it and its host to know what kind of person its victims were and perfectly mimic them.[2]

Living Hive: The symbiote can turn its mass into a swarm of spiders that are indistinguishable from real black widow spiders.[1]

Notes

  • It is unclear how Venom could have spawned Widow, as it had previously been stated to be all out of offspring and giving birth to Sleeper--noted to be an anomalous occurrence--almost killed it.[6] The Venom Symbiote also doesn't appear to consider Sliver one of its offspring.[7] Venom War: Venomous #3 later established that Sliver is actually just a piece of Venom rather than an actual offspring.
